Collective Haul

I had an allergic reaction to my first natural skincare - a make-up remover from Nature's Gate, to be exact.
Anyway, that meant, I had to skip that and revisit my trusty make-up remover.
I went back to my basics and bought some of my old favourites, to keep my skin normal and stress-free. Mainly Avene products. Sukin is a new brand which I am trying out. Oops.

Avene Micellar Lotion (20% off from Robinsons)
Clarins Gentle Refiner Exfoliating Cream (gift from Clarins member's party)
Clarins Cleansing Milk (gift from Clarins member's party)
Sukin Hydrating Mist $11.90
Avene Thermal Spring Water $10.10 (before 20% discount from Robinsons)

Most are gifts with the exception of The Brush Guard which I purchased from The Brush Guard. My first purchase was lost in transit and they promptly sent another one ( with another pack free) by first class mail to me. Such good service!

I was pleasantly surprised when I received a parcel of goodies from Iherb, I certainly did not expect that my brief write-up on the haul would generate a positive response from them. Looks like the social media platform is something that they took seriously.

The Hershey lipbalm was a gift from my lovely sister. Actually I no longer use non-natural lipbalms but since it was a gift from my sister, I would certainly use it.

ALT Bugis was having a sale on some of the items so I bought the Gransenbon Blush (Lady Rose in Shade 01) and Luv Carat Loose Powder (Natural Beige).

Gransenbon has ceased production and is being pulled out from the retail outlets in Japan. It is now selling at $15, down from the original $29.90

Its very unlike me to get bodycare products with anti-cellulite claims but after hearing raves from a close friend of mine who got back to her pre-pregnancy weight, well, I just gotta try it. Her face also become sharper after using the facial lift.

1) Luv Carat $19.90 ( original $39.90 )
2) Gransenbon Blush $15 ( original $29.90 )
3) Clarins High Definition Body Lift $110 for 2 bottles ( from Changi Airport Terminal 2 )
4) Clarins Shaping Facial Lift $80.50 ( from Changi Airport Terminal 2 )

Review : Dermalogica Ultracalming Relief Masque

Product Description
A powerful, ultra-calming treatment masque enriched with Colloidal Oatmeal to soothe enraged skin and provide lasting relief from sensitized skin flare-ups, redness and rosacea.

Recommended for sensitized, reactive and recently resurfaced skin. Use this ultra-calming masque anytime skin needs lasting relief from sensitized skin flare-ups, redness and rosacea. The exclusive Ultracalming Complex contains Oat and botanical actives that work below the surface to interrupt inflammatory triggers that lead to sensitization, while helping to minimize discomfort, burning and itching.

Oat and Ginger actives combines with Bisabolol and Boerhavia Root extract work synergistically to help relieve and restore skin while fighting future flare-ups. Enriched with Colloidal Oatmeal to soothe enraged skin while Algae, Mugwort and a blend of Mushroom extracts help reduce redness and calm skin. Contains no artificial fragrance or color.

Being such a big fan of Dermalogica products, I am always delighted to see new products from them. Most of the products worked pretty well on my skin, but sadly this new line for the sensitive skin is really bad. I am actually very disappointed that it does not work at all and sometimes even made my skin worse.

The original formula of the ultra calming cleanser is my holy grail product for almost 4 years, however the new formula performs badly on my skin.
With this new calming masque, will I be able to renew my confidence? Hardly, to say the least.

Key Ingredients of this new UltraCalming line :
Acetyl Tetrapeptide-15 : Targets neurosensitive skin by reducing painful sensations
Boerhavia Diffusa (Red Hogweed) Root Extract : Targets neurogenic inflammation, restores tissue integrity and soothes to restore skin's normal sensitivity level for immediate and long lasting effects
Avena Sativa (Oat Kernel) Extracts : Natuiral anti-irritant and anti-redness properties
Ginger Extract and Bisabolol : Works synergistically to help reduce redness and irritation

I have 4 sachets of this masque and it provided me for about 5 to 6 usages of which I have used for about 3 times. It does not have any artficial scent. The look-almost-creamy but light texture spreads easily on the skin but unlike the usual calming mask in the market, it does not have one of those minty cold feeling commonly used to soothe the redness, if any.
In fact, it feels so normal that one may forgot that its supposed to be a calming mask.

It does nothing to soothe the redness on my cheeks which was due to an allergic reaction to a new make-up remover I am currently using.
My red, dry scaly patch on the right cheek near the nose remains the same, with or without the masque application. It does nothing to the skin, no improvement, no soothed feeling, no softness, nothing. Period.

The first time, I used it up to 10minutes as stated in the description and there was a slight itch sensation of which I washed it off immediately. The second time, I was rushed for time and had it on for 5 minutes where nothing happen. The redness did not subside at all for the whole day.

The third time, I had it for 15minutes, just to ensure that it is truly a failure and indeed it proved my claim. Into the bin, it goes. Bye!

It does get good reviews from 3 persons on Makeupalley though. You can read more about the line of products here.

Review : Perfect Potion Detox Body Buff

Product Desription

Features :
Sulfate free
Gently exfoliates the skin

Regular use after waxing may reduce the incidence of ingrown hairs

At $26.90 for 125ml, I thought this was terribly expensive on my pockets, nonetheless, I still get it. Mainly because I thought the promoter at Parco Marina Bay was very patient and took pains to explain each product to me, since I was pretty new to this brand. It was evident that English was not her first language yet she never use any Mandarin with me, instead she tried her best to help me with my queries. Knowing how poor customer service can be in Singapore at times, good and helpful service can really make my day. It was not the best service I received in Singapore, but still, I am thankful for that even though this is supposed to be part of their jobscope.

Perfect Potion captures the essences of the world’s most therapeutic essential oils, herbal extracts and healing plants, creating an aromatherapy-based natural skin care alternative that’s as much about nurturing the mind and soul as it is about nourishing the skin.
Developed in Australia by renowned aromatherapy experts Salvatore Battaglia and Carolyn Stubbin, Perfect Potion is the result of more than fourteen years of studying and honing their craft and sharing their unique insights with customers in Australia and around the world.
Perfect Potion is also animal and environment friendly. There is NO testing on animals, NO animal derived products (except honey and beeswax) in their formulations, and to save the environment, Perfect Potion uses only ingredients that are sustainable and renewable, avoids wasteful packaging where possible, and ensures all packaging used is fully recyclable (source)

It baffles me as to why there are 2 Singapore Perfect Potion websites. You can check both here and here but I believe that perfectpotion.sg should be the latest one, since the location did state Parco Marina Bay as one of the outlets.

The whole packaging looks more premium than other scrubs I owned. Juniper and grapefruit fragrance filled the senses. The nut shells are enveloped in dark brown contents which can gets slightly messy with white bathroom walls like mine.
Walnut scrubs gives a slightly nutty and almost abrasive scrub to my body so use with a light hand. I enjoyed using this scrub as it gives smooth skin without any additional film on the skin or any dry after-feel.

Review : Uriage Tolederm Hydra Soothing Cream

Product Description
Toléderm Cream has been specially formulated to meet the needs of hyper-reactive, intolerant skin. Preventive and curative, it calms feelings of discomfort (tingling, tautness) and moisturizes the skin.
It gives the skin more resistance and protection against external stresses by reducing irritability, thanks to a combination of specific active ingredients containing algae polyuronides and Uriage Thermal Water. Thanks to its anti-irritant, protective and moisturizing properties, Toléderm Cream guarantees maximum tolerance and genuine, long-lasting comfort.

Benefits
* Dual action: preventive and curative
* After application, your skin will feel soothed and moisturized.
* Instant, long-lasting comfort.
* Pleasant, non-greasy texture.
* Air backless tube for a better preservation.

Fragrance-free - Lanolin-free - Colorant-free - Alcohol-free. High Tolerance: Hypoallergenic - Non comedogenic.

1 sachet gave me about 1.5weeks of usage. It reminds me of Bioderma Light Soothing Cream because of its product description and what it can do. Because of the positive experience from Bioderm Light Soothing Cream , I look forward to using this.

It has a scent which seems to stem from the ingredients, nothing unpleasant, just not on the fragrant side. It inclines towards the cream texture and does not spread easily on the skin. It does not sink into my skin, but leave a layer of film on top. While it did left a comfortable feeling on the skin, it does not hydrate that well.

Personally, I prefer Bioderma Light Soothing Cream than this.

Review : Lovemore Rose Crystal Tourmaline Peptide Moisturising Duo Lifting Mask

Product Description
The latest "turning back time lifting" mask fights against gravity, lifting the skin at your neck, mouth, cheeks and eyes area.

The set of 10 masks in 1 pack is much cheaper in Taiwan than getting the 5 masks pack in local Watsons. I think each pack was going for NT199, compared to the S$8.90 for 5 sheets in local Watsons.
Looking at the ingredients, I am impressed that the collagen peptide is 2nd on the list which meant that the concentration is much higher. It does boast of a few anti-aging ingredients, on a higher concentration than its moisturising ingredients counterparts. And hey, I am definitely happy to see that water is the last on the list, its indeed very rare. Most "water" ingredient is usually located on the 1st or 2nd place on the ingredient list.
However, do note that it does contain Methylisothiazolinone which may cause nerve damage (source)

That said, this is actually my first foray into this brand which I bought in Taiwan in May this year. I was not sure if it fits my skin type, but I still bought a number of different flavours from this brand. Beauty obsession at work!

I was dismayed to find out that I actually broke out in zits from the initial 3 sheets I used from the whitening range which I have yet to review. I skipped that for a while and usd this moisturising and lifting mask instead.
Thankfully, nothing went wrong and I used up all the 10 sheets in the box.

This brand is actually pretty popular online, I did not really scrutinize if all the reviews were sponsored, but I genuinely believe that most people do really like this brand. However, I actually feel that this mask is really bad for me. In general, masks work pretty well on my skin, especially moisturising masks which are no-brainers on my dehydrated skin. I couldn't tell if I love or hate this mask, which is why I have been using all 10 sheets before doing a final judge call. I just find it a pity that a mask with pretty awesome ingredients just does not work on my skin.

It has a non-offensive scent and the sheet mask with tiny spheres texture has 4 hooks, 2 which you hooked to the ears and another 2 which you hooked from the neck up to the ears.
Its meant to help in the lifting part, but because my face is on the cherubic side, hooking up to the ears meant that its super tight which left some gaps near my nose area. Its difficult to explain in words, but essentially, because it pulled up the whole sheet, there is some lift up near my nose area hence, that portion is not really moistured.
The tight feeling also meant that its slightly uncomfortable on the skin with the addition of a burden of 2 hooks on each ear.

Its very wet and so even though its recommended to use it for 20minutes, I thought I can use it for more than 30minutes since its still that wet. However, it does not work that way, unlike other masks I owned. It dries up my skin, even though the sheet mask is still pretty wet when I removed it. The dry feeling is very apparent 2 minutes after mask removal.
And even after removing it from the stipulated 20minutes, that dry feeling is still there sometimes. No moisturising mask have ever done that to my skin and I disliked that feeling very much.
My safest bet is to use it within 15minutes and to rinse off the remaining essence on my face to prevent the air from sucking back the moisture. That way, my skin feels more comfortable, though not sufficiently hydrated.

I did not see any visible lifting part, but then again, I may have overlooked it due to the dehydrating feeling I got, which made my skin parched.
For something that is supposed to give me anti-aging and moisturising benefits, this is sadly, not for my skin type.

Review : KOSE Clear Turn Eye Zone Mask Q10

Product Description
A concentrated treatment eye-zone sheet mask with co-enzyme Q10 that targets fine lines and wrinkles, as it saturates skin with moisture. It gives skin firmness and elasticity. A dull, uneven skin will be transformed into a healthy looking bright skin. Restore youthful suppleness and radiance with a single 10-minute application. Recommended for all skin types. Use 2-3 times a week at night, after cleansing and balancing. For 18 uses.

Features :
- Concentrates on taking care of your thin skin around the eye area
- With rich Collagen, Hyaluronic Acid, Q10, and Glycerin
- 100% Natural Cotton fits with your skin perfectly and does not come off easily
- Can be use both in the morning and night. mild acidic formula, non-fragrant.
- Straight from Japan

I first purchased KOSE Clear Turn Eye Zone Mask Q10 in Hong Kong 2 years ago - it was a 5 pairs package which I have reviewed here while this 18 pairs package was purchased in Japan late last year.

The papery sheet masks comes folded in a pair for easy pull-out from the re-sealable package. I like the fact that they do give some thoughts on convenient usage for buyers.

However, its horribly scented with alcohol which seems to be a norm in Kose products. It almost dries up within the stipulated 10minutes. And because its soaked with alcohol, it usually has a cold minty feel on the skin, giving one a misjudged feeling of being refreshed.

It does contain moisturisers as the 2nd and 3rd ingredients but alcohol as the 4th ingredient is a no-no for me.

The eye sheet masks did nothing to my undereye area, except for the assumed refreshed sensation, probably due to the inclusion of alcohol.

Review : Laneige Eye and Lip Makeup Cleanser (Waterproof)

Product Description
Works to remove all traces of waterproof lip and eye makeup in a single wipe. Contains Lily and Iris extracts to purify and smooth skin.
Tip: Shake before use. The dual layer consisting of silicon oil and water changes into an emulsion after shaking.

I bought this mainly because I have a $5 Tangs voucher to utilize and I needed an eye make-up remover. But moving forward, I am trying to incorporate natural make-up removers to my skincare regime.

I have used Laneige hydrating products some years back and along the way, some eyecare samples from friends who have visited Korea.

It does not have fantastic results on me, so I have not been really using their products again. However, Song Hye Kyo is someone whom I really like, for her beauty and clear skin especially after her "Full House" fame.

That said, I am not the kind who get swayed by celebrities' products endorsements. They usually have good skin to start with.

It is housed in a almost frosty bottle. Probably considered as big and clumsy for travel usage.
This dual-phased remover is great in removing all my eye make-up, include the tough M-Majolica mascara though that takes several swipes before its totally removed. Just remember to shake before use.
It is non-greasy ( a bonus point! ), does not sting and does not dry out the eyes.
It retails for $25 for the 150ml bottle.

Gee, I do not understand why it needs such a long list of ingredients. Is it that necessary?
The 2nd ingredient - Cyclopentasiloxane may cause mild skin and eye irritation.

Review : Therapeutic Dermatologic Formula Skin Freshener

Product Description
A non-drying toner and alcohol free, it is best suited for dry, normal and even sensitive skin types. Use after cleansing, this toner stabilizes your skin's pH level and enhances the maximum absorption of your treatment products. Skin feels soft and fresh instantly.

This toner was part of the exchange with Power C Firming Spritz. Even though it was relatively cheaper than the Spritz, I am fine with that because I am thankful to Ocean Health for their excellent flexibility and service.

Therapeutic Dermatologic Formula (TDF) is among the leading brand of dermatologist and aesthetic physician prescribed skincare, which offers a wide range of products that are superior in quality and efficacy, delivering visible results. It is also carried by my company doctor though he never tried to prescribe it to me.
You can check out the rest of the products here.

As a toner, it has a slight citrus scent mixed with something else and it took some time for me to get used to it. Initially, I have some tiny breakouts when I started using it. I skipped this product for more than a month before getting back to it again. Thankfully, there were no breakouts thereafter.
It does not do anything much to my skin though. Did it really stabilize my skin's PH level? I cannot be sure as my skin have been in pretty good condition lately.

You can check out the list of ingredients in Cosdna . It does contain preservatives which are considered as harmful ingredients from Environmental Working Group. Read more about other ingredients here.

Unforgettable Moments Sapphire

This is another colour from the trio set under the brand Forgettable Moments. I have previously reviewed on the colour Amethyst.
This Sapphire is a deep blue shade with a slight gloss effect, of smooth consistency.
It applies much better than Sally Hansen. One coat is enough for the opacity that I like, and there was no re-application needed even for an amateur like me. Even after using a base coat, let it dry before applying Sapphire, there was not much smearing, unlike my last application with Sally Hansen which wasted so much of my time.

However, its very difficult to remove, using my current Sally Hansen Nail Polish remover. Even after removal, there is a tinge of blue on my nails. Yucky and dirty looking.

Review : Living Proof No Frizz Shampoo and Conditioner

Shampoo Product Description
No Frizz Shampoo contains the same new anti-frizz technology as our stylers to do what silicones can't: eliminate frizzy hair by blocking humidity without weighing hair down. No Frizz Shampoo enhances the benefits of No Frizz stylers, leaving hair incredibly soft, smooth and frizz-free. Straight or curly, the shampoo leaves hair with a healthy shine and helps hair look and feel cleaner longer so you don't have to shampoo as often. It's sulfate-free, too, and provides extra gentle cleansing - perfect for colored hair

Conditioner Product Description
No Frizz Conditioner contains the same new anti-frizz technology as our stylers to do what silicones can't: eliminate frizzy hair by blocking humidity without weighing hair down. No Frizz Conditioner enhances the benefits of No Frizz Stylers, leaving hair deeply conditioned, smooth and frizz-free. Straight or curly, the conditioner leaves hair with a healthy shine and helps hair look and feel cleaner longer so you don't have to shampoo as often. Great for colored hair, too..

I picked this up from Sephora in Minneapolis, early in February this year. Spent a day shopping and I always love Sephora in US, because its chockfull of new brands and products not available in Singapore.
I have to admit that I have never heard of this brand prior to my purchase and the reason for my purchase is that, I actually mistook the brand for Intelligent Nutrients. Silly me.
I realized my mistake only when I reached home. Gee. What a kultz. It costs US$24 each, not something I would spent on hair products, actually. But I am usually out of control when I am overseas knowing that I would not get it back in Singapore, or that kind of prices, etc.

While my hair does contain frizziness under the humid weather in Singapore, it has never been a very big concern to me. In fact, I always prefer the tousled look, as opposed to the slick tamed look.
I was not expecting something great from a No Frizz name but I do have some expectations from something that costs US$24. It must at least perform abit of what it should perform. Thats a decent expectation from me.

Living Proof uses a new frizz-fighting technology named PolyfluroEster which works by creating a smooth surface on the hair to reduce friction between hair fibers and repels moisture which is the main cause of frizz.
You can read more about it here.

I have thick coarse long hair, that is coloured and permed once a year. I try to reduce the damage as much as possible which is why I only do it once a year with the rest of the time treating it. Sounds contradicting, eh?
Both the shampoo and conditioner have the same citrusy scent, with the shampoo having a stronger lingering scent. My hubby hates the scent on my hair though.

It comes with different cap lids. For the shampoo, you have to use your fingers to flick the cap open and I do not like to do that with my wet hands, so I am leaving it open permanently. For the conditioner, you just need to press it on one end and the other end opens with a small gap for the contents to come out. Again, I do not like this as well, as it tends to leave some remaining contents near the gap each time I poured out the contents on my palms so when you close the cap after each treatment, the remaining contents are stuck near the small gap opening which tends to flick out when you opened it next time.

The shampoo lathers pretty well and the conditioner did not weigh the hair down. It conditions my hair ends moderately well. Not the best, but still acceptable. Just not amazing enough.
There is a difference on my hair after using this set of shampoo and conditioner. It cleanses well, without the yucky sulphates, and frizziness is lesser by almost 20%. While I do not have a major frizz problem, but its neat to see myself in the mirror and not someone with octopus hair. Hair is softer with a bounce and stays manageable till the next wash. (For the record, I washed my hair everyday in the evening.)
However, my hair is not totally tangle-free. I still experienced some tangled ends.

In terms of ingredients, there are preservatives such as methylchloroisothiazolinone and methylisothiazolinone which are possible irritants. Behentrimonium Chloride in the conditioner may cause eye damage.

Review : Etude House Hologram Hair Serum

Product Description
Moisturizing serum supplies body and shine to limp and frail hair.

This is my first Korean hair product which I have asked a good friend of mine to get it during her work trip. Hologram sounds, well...something that sparkles under lighting with a 3 dimensional look so that got me interested.

Hair serum usually depleted very fast for me, since I need alot of it for my long tresses though I used it only on 50% of my hair length. Because I have permed hair which is almost non-existent (after a haircut), leaving only slight curls, I like to use this serum to define my curls.
The pump dispenses contents easily with a floral scent. It has a slightly greasy texture but nothing that water can't cleanse off.

With application on damp hair, it leaves a slight wet look with slightly defined curls. My hair looked less frizzy and healthier with a subtle sheen.
My hair felt soft when I run through the it with my fingers.

Review : Lancome Color Design Blush Freeze Frame (Shimmer)

Product Description
Beautiful, blendable silky cream blush that gives cheeks even, lasting color. Smooth and non-greasy, it glides onto cheeks softly and evenly.

Perfect for all skin types - sheer, shimmer finish
Shade: Peachy - Pink - Gold mix
TIP: Use this shade as a highlighter on cheek bones, above and under eye brow bone and on nose to highlight natural features

Winner of: Allure beauty editors award

This is an old blush from my stash. It comes in a mascara set from Lancome in USA so I was not given an option to choose the colour. It used to retail for US$27

I had difficulty in using this blush initially because the colour is just too subtle and it does not show on my cheeks despite having a fair skin tone. And being my first cream blush, I found it to be too troublesome to keep using my fingers in laying something that just would not turn up on the cheeks.

Looking at the colour, its really gorgeous. Its not so girly-pink and I like the little specks of shimmer in the pinky bronze shade.
I found myself to be reaching for this lately and I used it on the cheekbones with some colour down to the cheeks, and then layering with a powder blush. Cream blush tends to stay on better than powder blush and by layering two, my blush is still apparent by the end of the day.
I like the natural glowing bronze look from this freeze shimmer blush on my cheekbones. It works better as a highlighter than a blush and by using adding on a powder blush, it just works perfectly on my skin.
However, because of its highlighting glowing shade, its more preferred on blemish-free skin. At least, in my personal opinion. The little zit-like spots on my cheeks have become an eyesore, with this Freeze Frame blush.
The packaging itself seems to be too blah for something that costs US$27. However the texture glides on smoothly and the colour lasts.

Review : Naruko Off-Hours Express Makeup Removing Water

Product Description
Size: 120ml. Suitable for all skin types. Quickly remove makeup, dirt and cleansing in 30 seconds. Contains moisturising, soothing, anti-wrinkle essence. Cleansing and moisturising 2 in 1.

Being a fan of cleansing water, how can I not pick up one from the latest IT brand in the beauty world? Here comes Naruko, the skincare guru with its own brand of skincare products.
Retailing for $23.90 in most Watsons stores, the 120ml cleansing water depleted very fast under daily usage. It has a nice floral scent and cleanses well in a gentle way. I like that it leaves no greasy after-feel and no immediate tightness after usage. If you are good in Chinese, you can read more about its benefits here

However, there are certain days that I do find some tightness on the skin after the whole routine of cleansing. Not immediately after the make-up remover usage, but its after the last stage of cleansing. Not something I like.

Review : The Body Shop Vitamin C Energizing Face Spritz

Product Description
An instant pick-me-up to refresh and smooth. Energise dull-looking skin. Ideal for use on the go or to set make-up. With Amazonian camu camu berry, known to have one of the highest contents of vitamin C in nature, and Community Trade aloe vera. For dull skin

Its been 3 months since I last reviewed on a facial mist and thats because I have been trying to finish up my current stash as well as using this Vitamin C spritz for a decent time before reviewing. I am the kind who likes to finish all my skincare products before moving on to a new one, hence my reviews tend to be slower than others.
I bought mine for $12.90, down from the original of $19.90, sometime back.
The one I owned is still of the old design as shown above, but currently the new ones are of a new revamped design. I think I still prefer the old design.
You can check out the rest of the Vitamin C range here.

It smells deliciously of orange, a great pick-me up from the humid weather in sunny Singapore. I usually like the tap on the skin after each spray. With excess amounts, it tends to leave the skin slightly sticky. A strong spray in the direction of the eyes may sting slightly.

As everyone knows, Vitamin C is a great antioxidant with amazing benefits, protecting the skin from free radicals that causing aging. It is supposed to give one a brighter and more radiant look which I had, but to a very subtle extent. My skin looks less tired and dull but not to the extent that everyone notices. It also does not hydrates as well as those that I owned.
It scored 2.9 from 32 reviewers on Makeupalley
