Review : Sukin Organics Hydrating Mist Toner

Product Description
This alcohol-free, skin hydrating mist combines German chamomile and rosewater to help soothe, tone and cool tired skin

Usages :
Use after cleansing or whenever your skin feels tired or stressed. Perfect for hot days, long flights or long days in an air-conditioned environment.
Can be used on face and body, over and under lotions, creams, oils, gels and make-up. Use throughout the day to refresh and hydrate dry skin.

I used to be quite a big fan of facial mists and this was one of those products that I have been wanting to try out. Hydration! Check! Mist! Check! Natural! Check! Into my basket, it goes.

It was my first product from the brand and being a fan of hydrating products, it was on my to-buy list.
I have to say that, it does disappoint me greatly when I first used it and I neglected it for a while and went back to using it only recently. I just need to finish it up within the 6 months "once-opened" period.

Key Ingredients :
German chamomile : soothe and calm the skin with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties
Rosewater : tone and balance the skin with its light and low astringent properties

Sukin is an environmentally conscious, natural personal care company from Australia, offering luxurious, natural products that are not only effective but are affordable allowing even the budget conscious consumer the opportunity to purchase high quality, natural skin, hair and body care

Their products do not contain Sodium Lauryl Sulphate, Sodium Laureth Sulphate, synthetic fragrances, animal derivatives, harsh detergents, propylene glycol, artificial colours, triethanolamine, mineral oils, EDTA, or parabens. You can read more about their alternative ingredients to the said ingredients above here.
The product is housed in a brown opaque bottle which is good to protect light sensitive ingredients. The spray mist is abit fine so I tend to spray more. It has a light rose scent which is lovely in a subtle way.

I used it when my skin was dehydrated but it failed to revive the hydration level on my skin. I sprayed it on cotton pads and used it as a toner but it stings my skin. I used it when my skin was irritated and red but it failed to soothe the skin. I hated it then and churn it aside for a while.

Now, I am back to using it again, but used it like a refreshing toner and I don't expect any spectacular results. Its just not for me.
I would just spray it on the face and dab it gently with a tissue paper or I just follow up with a serum after my skin is slightly damp from the mist.

Ingredients :
Aqua, Rosa Damascena Flower Water (Rose), Glycerin, Chamomilla Recutita Extract (Chamomile), Phenoxyethanol, Citric Acid

Review : Etude House Honey and Milk Princess 3D Mask

Product Description
Unique 3D face mask sheet that comfortably fits face and neck. Essence formulated with yummy natural ingredients for a beauty treatment fit for a princess

I requested a friend to get a couple of this Etude House mask for me when she went to Korea. Honey and milk are usually considered as good stuff for the skin. The idea of 3D masks in Korea and Japan seemed to differ to that of Taiwan.

Taiwan's best selling 3D masks come from the brand, Lovemore which I have reviewed before.
I have first tried a 3D mask from Kanebo Japan, namely Kanebo Evita Deep Moisture 3D mask which is almost similar to this mask except that the Etude House Honey and Milk Princess 3D mask has an extra flap for the neck area.

This facial sheet mask has a heavy perfume-y scent which I rather do without. It is heavily soaked with essence when I first pulled it out from the packaging. A parting line can be found in the center, so that when you layered it on the face, you felt like there is a mountain top in the center of your face. Am I even making any sense? lol

There is an extra flap for the neck area but you will need to lie down on the bed while using this mask, else the extra flap will be hanging in mid-air if you sit upright.
The material of the mask is thick and sturdy, slightly stiff but still adheres moderately well, except for the flap for the neck area.

The after-feel is a sticky film on the skin which I prefer to cleanse it off, rather than to massage in. After using it for 3 consecutive days, I did see an improvement to the irritated red skin around my nose and chin caused by the SKII Facial Treatment Gentle Cleanser. The areas were less inflamed and more hydrated.

Review : SKII Facial Treatment Gentle Cleanser

Product Description
SK-II Facial Treatment Gentle Cleanser cares for your skin while cleansing. Containing Concentrated Pitera™ and Mild Treatment Essence, it leaves your skin hydrated even 30 minutes after cleansing. It can be transformed into fine-textured lather and gives mild rose scent. It refines skin texture, increases firmness, diminishes the appearance of wrinkles, enhances radiance and controls spots.

Key Ingredients :

  • 【Concentrated Pitera™】inhibits free radicals and improves skin texture.
  • 【Sodium PCA】a natural moisturizing factor that strengthens keratin functioning and enables the skin to hydrate itself.
  • 【Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract】has astringent, caring and soothing virtues.
  • 【Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate】softens and moisturizes skin.
  • Well, I finally laid my hands on a SKII product (after 4 years), a 6g cleanser from my July BellaBox. I actually tried it many years ago, when I still have soft bouncy skin but I couldn't tell the difference it gave me then.

Foaming cleansers are never for me and this cleanser touted as a gentle cleanser IS a foaming cleanser. Unlike others, this cleanser did not give me any taut or dry feeling, but I do feel a slight tight sensation on my hands, after cleansing. Not a good vibe.

It has a mild rose scent and is mousse-y and creamy in texture. It lathers easily and cleanse in a harsh way on my sensitive skin. I use it at night. On the first day of usage, my skin feels soft, smooth and clean. I was caught by surprise because my skin has never take well to foaming cleanser as my age climbs up.

On the 2nd day, my skin turns slightly red even though during cleansing, there was no tight feeling on the skin. On the 3rd day, the redness becomes more pronounced, around my nose and chin, which are the sensitive areas on my face. It was just horrible as the redness did not subside even till the following morning. I stopped using it immediately.

On the 4th and 5th day, my skin becomes flaky, rough and dehydrated even though I have stopped using it on the 3rd day. Horrible cleanser to the bin. I know there are many others who love the cleanser but its just not for me. So perhaps you may have better luck with it.

It retails at $89 for a 120g size. It scored 3.9 from 112 reviewers on Makeupalley.

If you are keen to try, here's where you can get it.

Review : Shiseido White Lucent Brightening Protective Moisturizer SPF16

    Product Description
A daytime moisturizer that provides exceptional brightening benefits as it protects skin from the harmful effects of UVA/UVB rays and dryness. Ensures a smooth, evenly luminous complexion. Specially developed with Shiseido-original Dual-Target Vitamin C and Spot Deacti-Complex. Offers daylong protection against UV rays and keeps skin looking ‘plumped' and vibrant. Contains Brightening Powder with light reflecting properties to enhance the natural luminosity of skin and minimize dullness. Formulated with Asian plant extracts to improve moisture balance and smooth skin. Absorbs instantly to leave skin feeling fresh and comfortable. Recommended for all skin types. Use every morning after cleanser and softener.

As part of a Christmas set gift which a good friend of mine gave me, I have been using this product as a daily morning moisturiser for more than a month. I don't use many whitening products because they are usually not hydrating enough for my skin and I will usually experience some flakiness after a while. My whitening products usually only revolve around spot correctors, masks or toners. Occasionally I do use whitening serums but I don't go all out to specifically buy a whitening serum. In contrast, hydration is very important to me.

I owned the 15ml size. It has a typical Shiseido floral scent, light yellow in colour and slightly creamy in texture
Using it alone, is not hydrating enough though I do find the hydration level is slightly better than what I have experienced with other whitening products. I don't experience flakiness till after more than a week usage.

I don't fancy its texture initially because it feels and looks heavy to me but is actually lightweight and runny in texture. Don't let the outlook fools you. It absorbs well but leaves a very thin film on the upper layer of the skin.

Having a SPF16 in a moisturiser is a bonus but I will still top up with a sunscreen because SPF16 is just not enough in our humid weather. And because its not hydrating enough, I use a serum prior to using this whitening moisturiser.

I did not see a brightening effect, either immediate after application or after a month's usage despite its claims but I do see that my skin tone is getting more even and a subtle improvement on my dark spots.

On Total Beauty, it scored 8.7 from 7 users. On Makeupalley, it scored 3.6 from 65 users.

Review : Rachel K Mineral CC Cream

    Product Description
CC cream is essentially a much-improved and refined BB cream created and developed in the lands of glowing complexions- Japan and Korea. BB creams combine skincare benefits while providing coverage and Mineral CC Cream is formulated to retain those benefits but with added nourishing ingredients for superior skincare. Furthermore, Mineral CC cream has been designed with special attention to providing much more effective skin coverage (you can even use it to substitute foundation) and its lighter texture gives a smoother, radiant yet non-oily (matte) finish!

    Key Ingredients :
White Tea extract : absorb, weaken and neutralize free radicals continuously and also provide protection from increasingly harsh environmental factors such as pollution, dust, and chemicals in the air. It boosts the immunity of skin cells and prevents wrinkling and pigmentation
Green Tea Leaf extract : rich in antioxidants and boasts anti-inflammatory and natural disinfecting properties
Deep Sea Water : gives resilience and moistness to the skin and allows for better skin permeability.
Macadamia Nut Oil : high contents of Palmitoleic Acid, an essential component of human sebum, which is lost with aging
Vitamin E : protects body tissues from breakdown and signs of photo aging, and aids in reducing the appearance of stretch marks, age spots, while maintaining the skin's oil balance and reduces trans-epidermal water loss from skin, strengthening the skin's barrier function.
Epidermal Growth Factor : stimulates collagen production in skin and speeds up skin regeneration.

    CC cream guarantees!
    • Less oily
    • More whitening effect
    • More brightening effect
    • Better coverage
    • No breakouts
    • More moisturizing
    • More long lasting
    • Better stability

I owned a sachet in Original colour which I have been using for the past 3 weeks. There were some refinements needed for my usual make-up routine while I was using this CC cream because unlike the usual BB cream, this shade is just too light for me! Still, I have to nod my head and say that this is an awesome product.
This product is waterproof and contains SPF35 PA++, with a slew of ingredients that are good for the skin. When I first saw the shade, I was quite surprised that its so light, akin to a beige colour. I do not have issues with the shades of most BB Creams I used, since I am fair-skinned by nature. But this shade seemed too light and is especially so, when a male colleague of mine commented that I probably put on too much powder. Another female colleague commented that I looked sick. Gosh! The least I want, is to get attention for my simple, no-frills make-up.

The texture is soft and creamy with a lovely scent. It glides on very smoothly but gives a contrast tone between my neck and face, after application. While I like that it brightens up the face, giving it a pinkish, radiant and natural glow, but the shade is just too light for my skin tone.
It stays matte throughout the day and remained so, at the end of my workday. The shade had sort of adjusted to my skin tone at the end of the day, which is my preference, as compared to the lighter shade during application.

Oil-control is excellent with minimal shine after 6 hours. However, I have a zit, after every 2 days of application which meant, I gained 2 zits from 5 days of usage. On the following 2 weeks, everything is back to normal, no zits and all.

It provides medium coverage and I like the flawless complexion and the long lasting matte look. I still looked fresh and radiant at the end of my work day. However, because of the colour, I changed my loose powder to a darker tone to combat the too light shade from the Mineral CC Cream. In addition, I also tried to pick up lesser loose powder than norm, to reduce the overly make-up look. Thats just me, but there are many ladies out there who prefer the thick powder look though.

The CC Cream is now available in three enhanced formulas : Original (for complexion with pink undertone), Neutral (for complexion with yellow undertone) and Sunkissed.
The retail price is $35 for 50g at Watsons stores.

Review : Beauty Clinic Mediheal Collagen Infusion Essential Mask

Review for Beauty Clinic Mediheal Collagen Infusion Essential Mask
    Product Description
It contains components such as hydrolyzed collagen and elastin which make your skin fatigued by time more vital, so it will change your skin young and vital as if it put the time back and form a moist essence film on your skin having weaker function from dryness. Use of the cellulose mask sheet with silky touch fitting even your fine wrinkles aids intensive care and delivers the efficacy of the high-concentrated essence more mildly.

Yet another mask from the same Ampoule series, I bought 3 sheets of the collagen infusion mask which I used this week.

Made of silk cellulose as the texture of the mask, it fits snugly on the skin, without any flaps hanging in mid-air. Thin and sheer, it is purported that it allows the skin to breathe easily and aids in efficient absorption of the highly concentrated essence

Marine Collagen, Marine Elastine and Vitamin E help to rejuvenate, improves elasticity and firmness in the skin. It is touted to smoothen and soften the skin texture, resulting in firmer and younger-looking skin. The combination of the ingredients forms a transparent thin layer on the skin surface to keep skin moisturized throughout.

I have nothing bad to report about the mask because it does hydrate the skin sufficiently. My skin has been behaving well this week and this mask helps to maintain the hydration level and suppleness of the skin. It has a heavy scent though and the mask is dripping wet when I pulled it out from the packaging.

Review : 100% Pure Pomegranate Hydrating Body Wash

    Product Description
Delicious and richly foaming Pomegranate Hydrating Body Wash is a luxurious wash that gently cleans while it softens, hydrates, and pampers. Hydrating Body Wash leaves you sparkling clean and refreshed while nourishing your skin with vitamins, antioxidants and skin brightening fruits. No harsh detergents, no synthetic chemicals, no artificial fragrances or any other toxins that can strip, irritate or dehydrate your delicate skin! Truly, 100% Pure. 100% Natural. 100% Vegan. Gluten-free.

Its been some time since I last used 100% Pure products. So when I came across that Purity Cosmetics was having a promotion on their body washes, I hauled in this Pomegranate Hydrating Body Wash at $21.10, down from the original $27 at 502ml size.

Made in USA, 100% Pure products are cruelty-free and their packaging is BPA and Phthalate Free and printed with biodegrable, non toxic soy ink. How can you not love this brand?

I love the delicious yummy sweet scent of Pomegranate. It comes in a pump dispenser bottle which dispenses the body wash in foam. How interesting is that! I usually pump 3 times of foam and lather all over the body. However, the texture is quite light and thin which some people may not like it that much.
There is no greasy or tight feeling after each wash but you are not overly moisturised too. Just a yummy body wash after a long day at work. I do enjoy the foam dispenser though, even though the texture may come across as too light. I love the ingredients from this body wash too.

    Ingredients :

Review : Cetaphil Daily Gentle Skin Cleanser

    Product Description
Cetaphil® Gentle Skin Cleanser is great for daily makeup removal. Originally formulated for dermatologists, this cleanser is gentle on your skin and sensitive to your skin’s needs. Cetaphil® Gentle Skin Cleanser will not strip the skin of natural protective oils or emollients, or disturb the skin’s natural pH balance. This dermatologist-recommended cleanser is fragrance-free and non-comedogenic. Cetaphil® Gentle Skin Cleanser is gentle enough for children, teens and adults.

When I learnt that the dermatologist I visited for eczema also has one by the basin, I was keen to try it out. I owned a trial sized sample from here and have been using it as a daily cleanser.

This is a mild and gentle cleanser which does its job. It does not remove make-up well, as far as I am concerned, and I used it as a cleanser, not a make-up remover.

White in colour and gel in texture, it does not lather but I quite like the comfortable and moisturised feeling on the skin. There is no greasy or taut feeling. It is also scentless.

But I was dismayed with the ingredients. SLS! A surfactant. Parabens! A preservative! Not something I would repurchase in the full size even though the concentration may be low. Still, it has many reviews on Makeupalley, scoring 3.5 from 4419 users with 63% of people willing to buy it again. It also scored 8.3 on Total Beauty from 584 users.

    Ingredients :
Water, cetyl alcohol, propylene glycol, sodium lauryl sulfate, stearyl alcohol, methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben

Beauty Box Subscription : July Glamabox

I have read about Glamabox being value for money in Her World magazine, among the rest of the beauty box subscriptions, so I signed up for it at $18 per month.

When I first opened the box, the quantity certainly looked miserable to me. And the brands are unknown to me, except for Kose Clear Turn. It was written that each Kose Clear Turn Mask costs $10 each, it certainly sounds highly-marked because I don't think I would pay such prices for that brand.

I am not really into substitution meals but I guess I would try it since its already there. And I am not a lip gloss person but well...:)

The Daisymee Peach White Aqua Day Lotion costs $20 in retail price so if the monthly price is $18, it would have been considered as value for money.

If you ask me to compare between Bella Box and Glamabox, I think Bella Box appealed more to my likes, being skincare products, known brands, pretty box, etc.
However, Bella Box contained more samples and being more expensive while Glamabox has a full size product among other samples.

Review : Beauty Clinic N.M.F Aquaring Ampoule Mask

Beauty Clinic Mediheal N.M.F Aquaring Ampoule Mask Review

    Product Description
Invigorate your skin with Hyalronic Acid,Ceramide,Natural Moisturizing Factors (NMF) to significantly increase hydration. Revealing softer and smoother looking skin. The combination of our hydrating elements helps to balance sebum and tightening of the pores optimizing the mask effects. Each mask contains an entire bottle of highly concentrated ampoule which enhances the effects of supplying the nutrients while maximizing hydration, bringing out the radiance in your skin.An absolute skin revival at its best.
Experience the silk cellulose mask, which fits snugly on your face. The sheer thinness of the mask allows the skin to breathe easily and aids in efficient absorption of the essential ingredients.

Their original brand "Leaders Clinic" have been renamed to Beauty Clinic now. I have previously used their Whitelux Ampoule Mask without much spectacular results to boot.
I requested a friend to get 2 sheets for me, while she was in Korea and I have been using it on 2 consecutive days.

To my understanding, Beauty Clinic is a leading clinical skincare brand in Korea and sells over 500,000 Clinie masks in Korea monthly. Each ampoule sheet mask is touted to contain the equivalent of one ampoule content. However I am not too overly impressed after using the 2 sheets.

Made up of ultra thin silk cellulose material, it fits onto the skin like second skin. It was a perfect fit and it fits snugly and securely on the skin, without any flaps hanging in mid-air.
The cut-outs are small yet fits the shape of my face perfectly, covering all the essential bases, with just the exact cut-outs for the eyes, nose and mouth.

However, the hydration is just disappointing. It barely lasts more than 30 minutes after removing it.
And after the 2nd mask, it left a small eczema patch on the area just beside my nose. No itchiness, but it was red and scaly.

Then again, what does not work for me may just work well for you. If you are keen to try out the masks, you can purchase from Amazon. They are pretty affordable to be used as daily maintenance, without breaking the bank.

Review : Lush 9 to 5 Orchid Oil Cleansing Lotion

    Product Description
This gentle cleanser is made with almond oil, dove orchids and everlasting flower absolute to remove your leftover make up, dirt and grime at the end of a long work day. A straight forward cream cleanser for simply perfect skin.

    Features :

  • Safe for sensitive skin: Treat your face to 9 to 5 after a long, hard work day.
  • Wash the day away: 9 to 5 is fantastic for taking off stubborn make up and leaves you with a fresh feeling after use.
  • Soft and gentle: The dove orchid is used in 9 to 5 to calm and soothe irritated skin

  • I bought this 95g product in HK last year which last me for more than a month, with a daily usage in the evening. I was rushing for time and the lady did not quite understand my questions when I asked about the texture and purpose of this product so I just grab and go.

I thought it was either a cleansing lotion or a cleansing oil product based on the name " Orchid Oil Cleansing Lotion" but it was actually a cleansing milk!

It comes in a flick-top cap opening with a small hole where the cleansing milk oozes out easily. White in colour and runny yet creamy in texture, it has a musty smell which is bearable. Since it is a cleansing milk, I used it on dry skin and promptly cleanse it off with water. Big mistake. Because the skin feels unclean, with a thick greasy and slippery feel. When I swiped the skin with some toner, there were still some make-up remnants left. Simply yucky!

However on dehydrated skin, I like that it is gentle and moisturising, with a veil of film on the skin after cleansing with 9 to 5 and cleanser. Still, I didn't feel that it was a good make-up remover, using this method of cleansing.

Next, I tried the recommend method written on the bottle, that is, to use on dry skin but remove it with cotton pads. The cotton pads help to ensure all the make-up gunk goes off the face and this is indeed the right method to utilize the full potential of this make-up remover. Note that I don't use it on the eye area though, because I have a separate eye make-up remover for that purpose.
The skin feels clean and not taut and there is no greasy after-feel.
    Almond Oil : Moisturise
Ylang Ylang Oil : Balance the sebum, soften and smooth the skin
Fresh Dove Orchid Extract : Calm and soothe irritated skin

However, do note that it does contains Triethanolamine, Perfume and Parabens, near the bottom of the list. These are all considered as the dirty dozen.

The product scored 4.2 from 28 users on Makeupalley. And if you are keen in some DIY to duplicate the lotion, do check out SwiftCraftyMonkey

    OPI Let Me Entertain You

This shade may looks somewhat similar to OPI Katy Perry The #1 That Got Away but its slightly different. OPI Let Me Entertain You is a rich magenta shimmer from the OPI Burlesque Collection 2010.

This collection for winter 2010 is inspired by the upcoming Burlesque film featuring Christina Aguilera and Cher, and is full of glitter, shimmer and bold colour, perfect for the Winter season.

My first OPI in the original 15ml size. The brush is fat and dense which made application easy but 3 coats are needed for the opacity level I preferred. And it takes some time for it to dry.

The shimmers are kind of messy as it rubbed off on my palms during application. Still, a gorgeous shade. Perfect to wear to  a wedding dinner. Pardon my immature skills as I am still learning the art of nail polish. :)

It scored 4.8 from 15 users on Makeupalley

My First Beauty Box Subscription : Bella Box

I subscribed to my very first beauty box! Technically, I signed up for Glamabox first but Bella Box arrived earlier. So here's the loot.
I got a great bargain in this, because it was $5 for the first month, via UOB Ladies Card. The original price is $19.95, not exactly value for money, if you compare it to other beauty subscriptions but still, its a winner if there's something inside that caught your fancy.

    July Bella Box
    1) L'egere Water Drop Shiny Pearl BB Cream 10gm
    2) Jimmy Choo Eau De Parfum 5ml
    3) SKII Facial Treatment Gentle Cleanser 6g
    4) SKII Cellumination Mask-In Lotion 10ml

    6) SKII Facial Treatment Essence 10ml
    7) Skinmiso Pore Beauty Nose Pack
    8) Twistband
    9) Bellabox Lipstick Pen

I do like the July items and at $5, its literally a steal but for $19.95...hmm, I have to think twice. I am just wondering if I should continue my subscription till the next month though, just to check out the goodies. But I love surprises like this, it just brightens up my day, after a hard day at work.

Review : Avalon Organics Vitamin C Revitalizing Eye Cream

    Product Description
The eye area is always the first to show the signs of aging. To protect eyes from deep wrinkles and dark shadows, the eye area must be treated daily with a richly moisturizing and rejuvenating solution. Antioxidant-rich Vitamin C, Lemon Bioflavonoids and White Tea soothe oxidative stress and help fight the visible signs of photo-aging. Eyes appear refreshed and defined. pH balanced and perfect for all skin types.
70% certified organic ingredients and 100% vegetarian ingredients.

    Benefits :
Cocoa Butter, organic Sweet Almond, Borage and Flax oils with Vitamin C : optimal photo-aging protection
Lemon Bioflavonoids, organic Green Tea and White Tea : defend against damaging free radicals for smoother, younger looking eyes.

Being my first Vitamin C product for the eyes, I was hoping to see a significant improvement. The search for the perfect eye care product always seem like an endless search for me.

This eye cream is housed in a 30ml sized glass bottle that looks cumbersome and heavy. The opaque bottle has a tinge of translucency so you can still see the contents.

It has a pump dispenser which dispenses just the right amount as you only need a tiny amount for the undereye area. I reckon that the 30ml bottle can last me for a year as I have been using it for almost 6 months and the bottle still has about 50% of the contents remaining.

The odd thing is, there is a crust that forms at the tip of the cream, every time I dispensed it from the pump dispenser. Its a small matter but I thought I would just mentioned it anyway.

The texture is a white cream that is neither lightweight nor too heavy, somewhere in-between. Thank goodness, I have not encountered any milia seeds around the eyes. It has a light pleasant fragrance that is hardly noticeable.

The cream glides smoothly onto my skin and is quickly absorbed, leaving no greasy feel. I really want to like this eyecream for its anti-oxidant ingredients and benefits but I did not see a significant improvement to my undereye area.

It did soften the fine lines in a very subtle way after more than 5 months of usage but thats about it. It just helped to maintain the condition but did nothing to improve the dark circles or hydrate the undereye area.

In terms of ingredients, it contains activated Vitamin C (Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate) which is a powerful antioxidant proven to defend against the damaging effects of free-radicals that can age skin prematurely. It protects against damaging free radicals, and stimulate collagen and elastin production

With a powerful antioxidant team - Vitamins C and E, Lemon Bioflavanoids and Melatonin plus White and Green Teas, the antioxidants are touted to perform longer and more effectively when used in combination. Note that it uses Phenoxyethanol as preservative but its found at the bottom of the ingredient list.

Natural makeup artist, Kat Feldhouse recommends using coconut oil as an amazing leave-in conditioning treatment.
"It hydrates really parched beach hair and is great for women with really fried ombre-dyed ends. Pure coconut oil gives your hair great shine, moisture, and texture thanks to its rich fatty acids and proteins,” explains Feldhouse.

Here’s how to use coconut oil as a leave-in hair treatment:

    1. Scoop half a teaspoon of coconut oil, and really heat it up in your palms. Then grab sections of your hair, and drag the coconut oil through evenly. “A little goes a long way,” says Feldhouse. (You don’t need to apply it to your scalp unless you’re dealing with dandruff or a sunburn or your hair really needs the added nourishment.)

    2. Then go over your hair with a wide-toothed comb.

    3. Wrap it a top knot, a cute bun, or a tight fish-tail braid, and let the heat of the summer city streets or the beach just bake it in. The longer you leave it in, the better.

Feldhouse leaves her coconut-oil-coated locks in a pretty ballerina bun all day, and changes it up at night.

“Just before going out, I’ll undo the knot, and give my hair shake. I love that I smell like the beach, and my hair has that naturally touseled beach-wave look,” says Feldhouse. Only with none of the sun-and-salt-water damage.

It shampoos out pretty easily with a good cleansing shampoo—something astringent with tea tree should do the trick, she says. “Don’t reach for one with stripping sodium lauryl sulfate. That defeats the whole purpose!”

    Conditioner Description
Ideal for use on every hair type, this leaves hair perfectly behaved and moisturized, never heavy. Anti-aging, antioxidant-rich, volumizing, super smooth, non-frizzy, and nourishing to the scalp, hair and mind. Formulated without sulfates, parabens, silicones, ethoxylates, PEG, phthalates, and synthetic fragrances.

I was first intrigued by this brand when I read about how the founder drank the hair spray to prove that all his products are non-toxic. That shows how much faith he has in his products. Totally commendable! You can read about the founder here.

Intelligent Nutrients is touted as a health and beauty company that lives to the highest standards of 100% food-based, safe, non-toxic and organic ingredients.

    What's in?

    What's out?

Everything about this brand screams "big. The bottles at its gigantic size of 444ml, the fonts on the packaging, the website, the history, the ingredients, the certifications, etc. Simple and clear messaging about their products. It has even achieved a champion status with the Compact for Safe Cosmetics where the company is known to comply with the European Union's Cosmetics Directive, disclosed all ingredients and regularly update product information to EWG.

The shampoo is housed in a dark orange flick-top bottle which is huge and non-travel friendly. The contents are runny, so it oozes out of the small gap easily. It lathers well but I tend to use more than the usual amount that I would, from other brands, which explained why both the shampoo and conditioner are depleting at the same rate. It has a refreshing scent that agrees well with my nose and provides a minty and tingly feel on the hair.

The conditioner's consistency is creamier than the shampoo and also gives the same minty and tingly feel to the hair, though I feel the shampoo gives a better minty sensation since I used it all over the hair, instead of just the hair ends, like how I used the conditioner.

Using the shampoo in conjunction with the conditioner gave me detangled hair ends ( on most of the days ), with a soft and fluffy texture. Hair feels clean, smooth and looks slightly more voluminous.

    Multifunction use for the shampoo
    - as an anti-aging face and body cleanser
    - as an anti-aging foaming shave for face and body

    Mutlifunction use for the conditioner
    - as an anti-aging moisturizing body cleanser
    - for extremely dry hair, skip shampoo and cleanse with conditioner
    - as an anti-aging shave cream for face and body

The harmonic shampoo and conditioner has a low hazard rating of 2 each from EWG. I purchased Intelligent Nutrients Harmonic Shampoo and Harmonic Conditioner at Drugstore.com last year.

For the natural enthusiast, you may want to note that the products do contain phenoxyethanol ( the 6th ingredient on my shampoo bottle ), however on their website, it seemed that they may have reformulated it without phenoxyethanol though the reformulation is not mentioned anywhere else.

Here's what he says about his products containing Phenoxyethanol. And here's a chemist take on Phenoxyethanol itself.

Apparently, there are some animal studies that demonstrated that Phenoxyethanol has some toxic effects on the brain and nervous system with moderate concentrations.

Review : Lovemore Deep Hydrating Aqua Cucumber Extract and Ceramide

    Product Description
Love More Deep Hydrating Aqua Mask has cucumber extract, ceramide and oligomer, helping to do advanced moisturizing for your skin. The mask is tightly sticking to one skin! They are designed to fit perfectly with a special natural silk cotton. The skin is tightly stick with the mask without leaving any space which means it is able to moisturize skin more effectively.

I have been in need of much hydration lately, due to using whitening products in the day. Whitening products has never been hydrating enough for my skin and I make up for it by serums and masks.
However, I have used up my hydrating serum from Naruko recently and so my skin is in a parched condition. Here comes Lovemore Deep Hydration Mask.

I like the instant gratification after each treatment but the effects do not last beyond the next morning. I usually use it in the night, when I have more time to spare.
By using 3 sheet masks on 3 consecutive days, the effects stayed till the following day, before sinking back to my original dehydrated and rough skin condition.

This deep hydrating aqua mask is packaged in a blue box, which fits the term of aqua. The sheet is totally soaked with essence and dripping wet when I pulled it out from its individual packaging in the box. Even after layering on the face, it was dripping every few minutes so the best option would be to lie and rest in bed while donning the mask.

It has a slightly heavier fragrance than I would like, with a hint of cucumber. The sheet is thin and tore easily when I tried to remove the plastic film from the sheet mask.
The size and shape fits my face shape well.
I usually use it and remove it after 30minutes even though the stipulated duration is 20minutes. The result is smooth, soft, hydrated and brighter skin. My skin is brimming with moisture and feels comfortably good. There is no greasy and sticky after-feel.
However, the effects only last if I used it on 3 consecutive days. The effects from just 1 mask alone does not last beyond the following morning.

It retails for $11.90 for 7 pieces in Watsons.

Review : Garnier Fructis Style Wonder Waves Wave Enhancing Spray

    Product Description
Your perfect wave has never been this easy! Garnier fructis style wonder waves with fruit micro-waxes gives you the power to control, define and shape your ideal wave. This new generation wave spray controls, enhances and shapes your natural waves, creating a soft, tousled look. Lightweight formula provides smooth definition, shine and frizz control. Can be used anytime, anywhere to revive the shape of your waves. Garnier fructis wonder waves spray has a powerful wave defining technology with fruit micro-waxes. Texturizing polymers help shape the wave and provide hold. Lightweight moisturizing humectants and silicone provide soft conditioning without weighing hair down.

    Benefits :
    - Soft, tousled waves
    - Frizz control
    - With fruit micro-waxes
    - Lightweight formula provides smooth definition, shine and frizz control

    How to use :
Spray on hair that's damp. Grab a small section at the bottom of the hair, and begin to twist until it's twisted all the way to the roots. Coil the section into a pin curl, and secure the coil to the head. Repeat until rest of hair is done. Let the hair air dry completely, and gently undo the coils. Use fingers to lightly separate for soft, sultry waves. Spray on hair that's damp. Use fingers to scrunch and shape loose, tousled waves. Blow-dry or air dry. Can be used throughout the day to revive and rejuvenate waves - just spray and scrunch as needed.

I have a soft spot for Garnier Fructis products which claim to enhance curls or give shine to lifeless hair. Their marketing gimmicks always work on me. I usually order their products from drugstore.com, along with a huge haul of other products and it took me a long while to use them.
I love having soft curls on my hair so that meant it requires more maintenance to keep them looking good.

This product is housed in a large clear bottle with a slim silhouette that provides a good grip for the hands. The spray works well with a light spritz. It has a light scent that is subtle and does not linger long. I like that it is non-sticky and does not made the hair sticky or greasy, despite having a light hold to define the curls.

I normally use it on damp hair, spray the product lightly all over the hair, twist it to give my curls a soft tousled look.
It gives a subtle shine to the hair as well as making it slightly softer and smoother to the touch, however I failed to see any frizz control on my thick hair

In comparison, I like the Glistening Drops better than this.
It scored 4 from 81 users on Makeupalley .

    Ingredients
Aqua/Water, Propylene Glycol, PVP, Glycerin, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, PEG/PPG-22/24 Dimethicone, Phenoxyethanol, Parfum/Fragrance, Polyquaternium-4, Cetrimonium Chloride, Methylparaben, Polyquaternium-11, Linalool, Limonene, PEG-192 Apricot Kernel Glycerides, PEG-70 Mango Glycerides, Amyl Cinnamal, Citral, Citrus Medica Limonum Extract/Lemon Fruit Extract.

Review : L'occitane BRUME TONIQUE Toning Face Mist

    Product Description
A fresh mist that tones, invigorates, moisturizes and softens the skin. A certified organic formula by Ecocert with a fresh new fragrance. Organic mint essential water tones, refreshes, stimulates, invigorates, and purifies the skin while organic olive tree leaf extract preserves the hydration of the skin.
Organic olive water serves as an antioxidant and protects, working with organic olive oil to calm and soften the skin with vitamin E. Skin is refreshed and toned.

  • Organic Mint Water tones, refreshes and stimulates skin.
  • Organic Olive Tree Leaf Extract preserves hydration.
  • Organic Olive water provides antioxidant protection

  • I bought this off Strawberrynet some time back. As much as I hate wasting products but I have to admit that I only used about 40% of the 150ml product before the 6 months duration is up. This product is good for 6 months once opened. And its not because I cannot used it up but because I really dislike using it.

Touted to be dermatologically tested and suitable for all skin types, 96% of volunteers claimed that their skin is soothed and 91% of users claimed that their skin is moisturised, over a consumer test conducted over 3 weeks on 24 volunteers.
For centuries, Olive oil has been recognized for its natural moisturizing, regenerating and softening properties. It has anti-oxidant and softening benefits and helps combat premature skin-aging.

Certified organic by Ecocert, 99.62% of the total ingredients are from natural origin and 27.11% of the total ingredients are from Organic Farming. It certainly sounds and looks promising.

The light green coloured bottle has a slight clear translucency where you can see the quantity clearly. The spearmint scent is strong, almost like the scent my the toothpaste. The mist from the spray comes out in a slightly heavier burst than I would like. And there are suds on it! Strange, indeed. Although the suds will disappear within seconds but imagine having suds on the face?

And the annoying thing is that it is very sticky on the skin and hardly comforting. When I tried using it on cotton pads ( because I hate the suds ), it stings the skin. I don't know what I can do with it, because I really hate the suds and the sticky after-feel. It gets annoying because I need to layer other products after this toner mist and the stickiness made the next few products difficult to absorb in.

On dehydrated skin, there is no hydration, protection, radiance and refreshment that I can gleaned from the product.

    Ingredients :
Water, Mentha Viridis (Spearmint) Leaf Oil*, Glycerin, Alcohol*, Sodium Pca, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Water*, Capryloyl Glycine, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Hydroxide, Olea Europaea (Olive) Leaf Extract*, Citric Acid, Sodium Benzoate, Limonene, Potassium Sorbate.

Review : Shiseido White Lucent Brightening Refining Softener Enriched N

    Product Description
A luxurious lotion that softens and exfoliates skin

  • Helps eliminate appearance of visible spots, freckles and dullness
  • Contains AE complex to maximize delivery of beneficial ingredients to skin
  • Formulated with Asian plant extracts to enhance moisture balance
  • Leaves skin smooth, dewy fresh, radiant and healthy
  • Suitable for normal to dry skin

  • This was part of a Christmas set which a close friend of mine gifted. She is an arden fan of Shiseido. The 25ml size lasted me for about 3 weeks with daily use in the night. I believe that this may have since been replaced with the balancing softener.

This refining softener has a distinct floral scent with a slight hint of alcohol. I usually saturate a cotton pad with it and swipe it over the face. It has a lotion-like consistency which is slightly difficult to get it out from the tiny gap on the 25ml sample bottle.

It works well on my skin without any breakouts but I don't see any significant brightening effect. It does feel comfortable on the skin without any greasiness or tightness.

You can check out the list of ingredients here. According to Beautypedia, the amount of alcohol poses a slight risk of irritation and likely counteracts the anti-irritant properties of the licorice extract. The inclusion of St. John’s wort (Hypericum Perforatum)  means this toner should never be applied to skin that’s about to be exposed to sunlight.

Review : Ginvera Green Tea Nude Cover BB Cream SPF30 PA++

    Product Description
Enriched with premium Green Tea, Ginseng, Chinese Angelica and Hyaluronic Acid, Green Tea Nude Cover BB cream provides the benefits of blemish free concealing, sun block effects, whitening, moisturizing and reduction of lines, providing a long lasting smooth and ultra light feel to nourish and
perfect your skin. This beauty secret to natural beauty is definitely worth sharing!

    Benefits :
-Natural and flawless coverage for all skin tones
-Oil-control properties that provide natural matte finish
-Spread with nano fine texture, resulting in even-tone and natural look
-Supply essential nutrients to revitalize skin, resulting in visibly fairer
    and more radiant skin
-Provide all day hydration for soft, supple skin
-Provide SPF 30/PA++ to protect skin against UV rays and harmful free
    radicals
-Help reduce the formation of wrinkles and lines

I have a sachet which lasted me for more than 2 weeks usage. I did not really like it because of the scent which is choking me each time I used it on the face. It smells like alcohol but I can't find it in the ingredient list.

The texture is lightweight and runny and the single shade fits my skin tone, thankfully. Because its runny, its easy to spread and blends in well. You don't really need alot so a little goes a long way.
Oil control is moderately well. I would peg the coverage as light to medium, so light blemishes and redness can still be concealed well. In terms of hydration, I would think its better than most BB creams on the market because it did not exacerbate or accentuate the flakiness on my nose and chin which is a great bonus for me.

I like that it contains SPF30 with PA++ yet its not greasy or heavy on the skin. Its a huge bonus in our humid weather, don't you think so?
In terms of finishing, I wouldn't say I looked flawless, radiant or glowy. It is just not as spectacular as I would want it to be. It even out my skin tone and provide coverage for better looking skin, like what a decent BB cream does.

Review : Love + Toast Salt and Sea Sugar Scrub

    Product Description
All things natural and delicious join forces to restore skin to polished perfection. Vitamin C rich Orange Peel and beauty buffing Sugar Cane soothe and smooth. Antioxidants White Ginger and Pomegranate top off the mix to help heal damaged, dry skin. A super scrub to leave you radiant and rejuvenated.

This brand, known for its beautiful and fun illustrations on its packaging has a range of delicious offerings in their bodycare. I have used their handcreams before and decided to order their sugar scrub from drugstore.com
Their products contain no parabens, phthalates, petrolatum, mineral oil, propylene glycol, retinol, sulfates, or synthetic color. Never animal tested, no animal ingredients

Although I have used scrubs housed in a tube but this is the first one, that I wish it comes in a tub instead. Its not user-friendly at all.
Logically, if the contents are housed in a tube, one have to make sure that the contents are runny enough to flow out of the tube but this sugar scrub as the name implies is not runny at all. It is a thick mixture and sticky and glooey in texture. Can you imagine how tough it is, for a glooey material to ooze out of a tube?

I spent ridiculous time trying to get the scrub contents out of the tube. It just wouldn't budge, no matter how I shake it and how I squeeze it from top to bottom.
When it finally budge alittle, its the liquid that comes out, mixed with abit of the scrubbing bits, so basically, you feel like you are bathing in a veil of moisturising oil on the body with slight scrubbing on the body.

After I had enough battling with the scrub, I cut a larger hole on the gap. I always have a love-hate relationship with salt or sugar scrubs, because its a mixture of the liquid and the beads.
You have to scoop up enough granules with the liquid to balance the whole experience of body scrubbing, else you may end up with more oil and less scrub and vice versa.
The contents of this salt and sea sugar scrub is glooey by nature, and if you scoop up less liquid contents, you may find it slightly more abrasive. I did not quite like using the scrub. The annoying thing about this scrub is the awful packaging.
Just when I was glad that the contents are ending soon, it gets tough again because there is more air in the tube, which meant that when you squeeze, you have to use double the strength and the contents would just burst out, hitting my eyes. Painful, indeed.

The scent is sweet and is described as clean and crisp by their folks. A fresh breeze of Cut Greens and Mineral Salt packs a perky punch. With an energizing splash of cool Citrus Zest and sparkling White Floral, prep for a pure rush of seaside refreshment.

It gives a good scrub if you balance the contents correctly but the bad packaging marred my experience of using this. Kindly note that the instructions state that the scrub is meant to be used on dry skin but I preferred to use it during showering on damp skin so I never follow through their instructions.
I still get clean and well-moisturised skin after each scub.

    Ingredients
Sucrose, butylene glycol, cocamidopropyl betaine, water (Aqua), hydrated silica, sodiumC14-16 olefin sulfonate, butyrospermum parkii (Shea Butter), citrus aurantium dulas (Orange) Peel Oil, white zingiber officinalis (Ginger) Root Extract, Punicagranatum (Pomegranate) Seed Oil, caprylyl glycol, ethylhexylglycerin, hexylene glycol, love and toasts own botanical fragrance blend with natural essential oils, phenoxyethanol.
