Review : Bioderma Hydrabio H2O Cleansing Micelle Solution

Product Description
A BIODERMA innovation, the patented Aquagenium® biological complex stimulates the skin’s cellular capabilities, re-training it to generate in depth, and to lock in on the surface, the moisture essential for its balance.
The micelles contained in its formula, in a single step, perfectly cleanse and remove make-up from the face and eyes.
The skin immediately regains comfort, suppleness and radiance.
Very gentle to use, Hydrabio H2O guarantees excellent skin and eye tolerance.
The Hydrabio H2O formula is hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic.

The famed Sensibio H20 Micellar Solution remained as one of my favourite cleansing water ( even though it does contain some not so friendly ingredients ) so when the Bioderma promoter suggested this Hydrabio H20 Micellar Solution to try out, I was hesitant. She told me the formula does not differ much except that its for sensitive dehydrated skin.

I am surprised that for something that is meant for sensitive skin, it is perfumed, as compared to Sensibio H20 Micellar Solution which is seriously for the sensitive skin.
Since its meant for dehydrated skin, the formula does contain Niacinamide which can improve skin's elasticity, dramatically enhance its barrier function, help erase discolorations, and revive skin's healthy tone and texture (source). It has a longer list of ingredients as compared to the Sensibio version.

In terms of texture and formula, it is water-based and is lightly fragranced but in a non-chemical scent. It provides a more refreshing and moisturising feel than that of Sensibio which is more gentle and mild. It removes my make-up effectively though I cannot guarantee for waterproof make-up. I have no problem in removing my eyeliner and eyeshadows with this solution but uses a separate eye make-up remover for mascara.

It is non-drying and non-greasy. I used it with cotton pads and do cleanse my face with my regular cleanser thereafter. I know of some people who do not follow up with cleansers and are fine with it.

In comparision, I preferred the Sensibio since it has a shorter ingredient list and is not perfumed.

Review : Mentholatum Sunplay Super Block SPF 130 PA+++

Product Description
Sunplay Super Block SPF130 has the highest SPF for maximum outdoor protection against harmful UVA and UVB rays all day long. It has a Revolutionary Watery Liquid Formulation that gives you the protection that you need, without you feeling a thing!

• Highly water resistant
• Ideal for face and body

I redeemed a 6g sample from its facebook page and has been using it mainly from my arms down all the way to my wrists every day before stepping out of the door.

This small portable size with a SPF130 stamped on it gives the illusion that it has the highest protection factor in the market, hence would be able to protect against the harshest sun rays from all over the world.

SPF refers to the ability of a sunscreen to block ultraviolet B (UVB) rays, which cause sunburns, but not UVA rays, which are more closely linked to deeper skin damage

However, please note that an SPF 15 product blocks about 94% of UVB rays; an SPF 30 product blocks 97% of UVB rays; and an SPF 45 product blocks about 98% of rays so actually SPF130 product does not differ much from an SPF45 product.

Sunscreens with higher SPF ratings block slightly more UVB rays, but none offers 100% protection.

Recently, the FDA has a proposed regulation that would limit the maximum SPF value on sunscreen labeling to “SPF 50+”

The final regulations, which become effective June 18, 2012 ( compliance dates for testing and labeling were extended until Dec. 17, 2012 for most over-the-counter sunscreen products ) establish a standard test for over-the-counter (sold without a prescription) sunscreen products that will determine which products are allowed to be labeled as “Broad Spectrum.”

Products that pass the broad spectrum test will provide protection against both ultraviolet B radiation (UVB) and ultraviolet A radiation (UVA). Sunburn is primarily caused by UVB. Both UVB and UVA can cause sunburn, skin cancer, and premature skin aging. A certain percentage of a broad spectrum product’s total protection is against UVA. ( PA rating where PA+++ offers the highest protection )

The new labeling will also tell consumers on the back of the product that sunscreens labeled as both “Broad Spectrum” and “SPF 15” (or higher) not only protect against sunburn, but, if used as directed with other sun protection measures, can reduce the risk of skin cancer and early skin aging. For these broad spectrum products, higher SPF (Sun Protection Factor) values also indicate higher levels of overall protection.

Well, let's get back to the product then. This Super Block SPF130 PA+++ comes in a watery formulation, commonly found in Sunplay products. White in colour, its runny and hence oozes out easily from the bottle, once tilted.

The texture is light and non-greasy but tends to leave a powdery-feel after it dries up and feels slightly drying on my hands. A distinct sunscreen smell is also apparent.

It contains Solarex-3 technology that provides a unique UV defense protection.

Benefits :
- Provides superior photo stable protection against UVA and UVB
- Anti-aging ingredients, RonaCare Ectoin and Antileukine 6 helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles
- Hyaluronic Acid hydrates and locks in moisture on skin

The product also boasts of low irritants, free from colorants, non-comedogenic, super water and sweat proof with a watery liquid formulation that is ultra light, non-greasy and smooth on skin.

Review : Mandom Beauty Barrier Repair Facial Mask CO

Product Description
Superbly-hydrating sheet masks drench skin with collagen and hyaluronic acid-enriched essence to quench skin thirst and restore skin's youthful glow and supple feel. A single sheet is infused with as much as 27 ml. of essence, successfully reversing the signs of skin dryness and giving skin a moist finish with a translucent glow.

Previously, I have reviewed the HA mask and this is the collagen version where the name "CO" stands for collagen. I picked a box of 5 sheets from Sasa at $10.90.

Mandom Beauty is a drugstore beauty brand where it offers some good products at affordable prices. I like that its Barrier Repair masks work well on my skin without the need to spend ridiculous amount of money.

Individually packed, each sheet mask is heavily soaked in essence that drips alittle when its pulled out from the packaging. It has a soya bean scent that smells edible. Lol.
It comes with a small eye flap where you can tear it abit to pull it down. The sheet mask adheres well to the skin since its so wet. It drenches my skin with moisture and leave it much better hydrated.
Skin feels soft and supple the following morning.

Review : Kao Megurhythm Steam Hot Eye Mask (Light Lavender)

Product Description
It's an innovative and popular eye care product in Japan! This disposable eye pad generates a moderate heat (40 C) to warm, refresh and relieve stress of your eye areas. Suitable for everyone who spends long hour in working or internet surfing. This portable eye pad instantly comforts and soothes fatigued eyes. It also helps to improve blood circulation for reducing puffy eyes and dark circles.

I first picked up this product from Sasa Hong Kong at HKD38 for 5 pieces, not knowing that it can generate heat. Several months later, it seemed to be a popular item on Singapore shores.
Whats so phenomenal is that, it is a heat generating eye mask that has several scents to soothe your senses and depuff your eyes.

I picked mine in Lavender scent which is soothing and relaxing. It comes individually wrapped and once opened, you can hook the eye mask easily behind the ears with the ear hooks. Its quite loose fitting, so I tend to use my fingers to press it alittle closer to my eyes.

It can be used on the plane or before sleeping. I wore mine to bed and like to sleep with it though I do wake up to remove it. Its very comfortable and the heat sensation is just warm, not scalding hot. The mask is dry and there is no dripping mess on the bed. Once you had it on, the temperature starts to rise and reach a saturating point for a while. Even though its recommended to be used for 10 minutes but I thought it was quite a waste to throw it away since its still hot. I threw away my first one after using it for 10minutes.
For the subsequent masks, I had it on for 30minutes and its still hot after I remove it.

However do note that, because it generates heat, there will be some beads of water droplets between the eye area covered by the mask due to the steam, like water vapour.

Aesthetically, its not that appealing because it looks like a sanitary pad in certain angles. Hopefully they will improve the design, but then again, who cares since I am the only one using it at home.

I like the interesting concept and I was hoping that the warm sensation will help to reduce the dark circles and eye bags after a good blood circulation from the generated heat but sadly it does not seem to work effectively on me. The only function is that it relaxes the eye area after a long day.

Kao Megurhythm Steam Hot Eye Mask

Update : 26th Dec 2012
I tried the Rose fragrance and the experience is similar except for the difference in fragrance.

Update : 2nd June 2017
I received a complimentary Lavender sample and realized there seemed to be a change in formulation. Other than the lavender scent, there is another chemical scent like that of Iron. Very unpleasant!

Review : Naruko Raw Job's Tears Supercritical CO2 Whitening Toner

Product Description
NARUKO Raw Job's Tears Supercritical CO2 Whitening Toner is made of the selectively chosen organic Raw Job's Tears grains from Nantou, Taiwan, where the most advanced supercritical CO2 extraction technology is located. The raw ingredients of Raw Job's Tears help to moisturize and whiten skin and to increase its ability to absorb moisture.
Along with the raw ingredients of Raw Job's Tears, the toner is formulated with Vitamin C Ethyl, Vitamin C Glucoside, antioxidants, and grape leaf extract to help correct the skin tone and reduce the appearance of the dark spots/melanin. These ingredients work with snow fungus extract to whiten and hydrate the skin. The Whitening toner also helps to prevent aging and provides antioxidants to the skin.

I am always interested to try out Naruko products, especially since Niu-er is famed for taking very good care of his own skin. However, this whitening toner simply has a long ingredient list. It certainly do contain a number of ingredients from the Dirty Dozen. A number of fragrance and preservatives are present though its further down in the list which meant a lower concentration.

That said, lets delve into the product itself. The red bottle is slighly opaque but you can still see the amount of contents in it. The small opening is just right for a toner usage. Once opened, it has to be used up within 6 months, certainly not a problem if you uses it everyday.

You can use it as a regular toner or as a lotion mask where you pour it onto cotton pads, spread it thinly on the face. Initially, the whitening toner causes some stinging effect on my skin but after a few times of usages, the stinging effect disappears. Read more about the steps here.

Alternatively, you can also do some massage, while using the product.
Refer to the massage steps below.

The whitening and antioxidant ingredients supposingly helps to nourish and brightens the skin tone although as with all whitening products, you do need some time to see the effect on the skin.

The main ingredient, Raw Job's Tears, appears in a number of whitening products but I first came across it in Naruko's products. It is also known as Barley.
Its main function is to hydrate, soften and soothe the skin. Defends against UV and envrionmental damage.

I can't say that my skin have reaped significant benefits from it but it does brightens up my skin slightly.

As with most of Naruko products, the box can be recycled to something useful.

Ingredients
Purified Water (Aqua), Taiwan Coix Lacryma-Jobi (Raw Job's Tears) Seed Shell/Extract, Kalanchoe Spathulata Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Scutellaria Alpina Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract, Peucedanum Ostruthium Leaf Extract, Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Extract, Artemisia Umbelliformis Extract, Leontopodium Alpinum Extract, Epilobium Fleischeri Extract, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Snow Fungus (Tremelia Fuciformis) Extract, Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Leaf Extract, Galactoarabinan, Saccharide Isomerate, Polygonum Tinctorium Lour/Leaf/Stem Extract, Salicyloyl Phytosphingosine, Cucumis Sativus Fruit Extract, Hammamelis Virginiana Extract, Butylene Glycol, Propylene Glycol, Ethyl Alcohol, PEG-20 Glyceryl Triisosterate, Phenoxyethanol, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Methylisothiazolinone, Phytoferulin

Review : Kao Curel Moisture Lotion II and Moisture Face Milk

Kao Curel Moisture Lotion II Review
Moisture Lotion II Product Description
Contains Eucalyptus extract that penetrates deeply into the stratum corneum so skin becomes smooth, fully moisturized and resistant to external irritation. Helps to improve your skin's natural barrier function, soothe and protect skin from dryness. Leaves a thoroughly moist feel. Suitable for dry skin.

Kao Curel Moisture Face Milk Review

Moisture Face Milk Product Description
The Ceramide functioning ingredient and Eucalyptus extract penetrate deeply into the stratum corneum so skin stays soft, deeply moisturized and resistant to external irritation. It helps to improve your skin's natural barrier function, soothe and protect skin from dryness. Easily absorbed into skin to leave a moisturized, comfortable feeling.

I redeemed a trial pack on its facebook page sometime back and I have been using both products (8ml each) for close to 2 weeks.

Kao Curel is designed for dehydrated and sensitive skin. Based on the study conducted by Kao in Japan, Curel's hydrating and moisture-retaining ceramide care helps to improve dry, dehydrated and flaky skin problems.

It also helps to relieve the symptom of xerosis and dermatitis. The intensive hydrating ingredient, synthetic pseudo-ceramide, protects and re-hydrates the natural skin's moisture that acts as a barrier to prevent the skin from the harm of environmental changes, such as air-conditioning, wind, UV ray, dust and low humidity. The nutrient contained in the product can easily penetrate into the cuticle to improve rough skin texture without leaving a greasy layer on the skin.

Curel products are hypoallergenic, fragrance-free, colorant-free, alcohol-free, pH balanced and clinically tested on sensitive skin.

The lotion is described as the 2nd step in the skincare regime, followed by the face milk. The Moisture Lotion II is actually a toner, which is a clear liquid that supposingly has a Eucalyptus scent. It feels like an ordinary toner that I applied on the face by patting it in with my fingers. And because its so runny, I tend to use it up faster than the face milk.

Do note that the Moisture Lotion comes in I, II and III where III is the enriched version.

The Moisture Face Milk is a moisturiser with a milky consistency that is white in colour. I found it to be mild and light which is suitable on optimal skin condition but not on days when my skin is battling with dehydration. The inclusion of dimethicone in the ingedient list helps to make my skin softer and smoother after application though the hydration performance is still poor.

    Carribean Cruise to Malacca

From the picture above, can you tell where I have just came back from? The title certainly tells it all. Its been years since I went onboard a cruise ( and that was the Star Cruise Aquarius eons ago! ).

Carribean Legend of the Seas is certainly many notches above Star Cruise Aquarius but its not exactly a fair comparison since that was years ago and it was a smaller cruise. This recent cruise was a 3D2N cruise to Malacca and since it was a short trip, we did not alight from the cruise to visit Malacca but instead enjoy the Day2 activities which were fantastic as compared to Day 1 which was alittle boring.

The picture is a snapshot of its "fine-dining" restaurant which serves awesome food. Some of the ingredients and food were air-flown from various countries.

To sum it up, I think Carribean Curise is definitely worth a visit at least once. For great food, excellent service and some of the spectacular programmes. I won't say that everything is great, some of the food were too sweet or too bland and some of the programmes were boring even though the hosts were trying very hard to get the mood going. Still, a worthwhile experience to boot. :)

    Lancome Beauty Set Haul

Ever since I started on the regime of using more skin-friendly ingredients for the skin, I have not really purchase much from the major brands in departmental stores however I was very tempted by the Lancome Beauty Set that costs $105 with any $120 purchase. I like some of the products it has, and at $105, I thought it was quite a steal.

I purchased the Visionnaire Christmas set for my mum that costs $180 and purchased the Beauty Set for myself. I dislike the bulky and glittering case because other than that it is a white elephant at home, it took up precious space from my room and you know how tiny our rooms are, nowadays.

The gritty glitter, as expected, came off easily. I prefer that it comes in a fabric kind, so that I can at least keep it for future use. This hard gritter case is hardly practical.

Christmas is always nice for retail therapy especially for beauty shopping!

    Kanebo Sale and Haul

I went down to the sale today as I happened to be on leave and thought I would just try my luck. The sale is usually on weekdays with timings that is impossible for me. I don't visit cosmetic sales that frequently because I hate the jostling and aggressive crowd in addition to spending precious time for payment.

The Body Shop warehouse sale crowd is notorious for being aggressive and crowded, despite the room being spacious. The center area is just vacant. For the petite size me, I can never reach for the make-up, ( think: short hands ). It is usually held in Suntec Convention Hall.
The cashier payment is a breeze as there were many counters so that is at least, a relief. I don't buy their products nowadays though.

The Laneige warehouse sale is hardly considered as a warehouse sale since their products are almost limited and its held in a small cramped room with hardly room to breathe and stand. The cashier payment is yet another long queue, squeezing with those people trying to shop for the purchases. All in the tiny cramped room. It is usually held in one of the function rooms in Robinsons at Raffles City.

So thats how "experienced" I am, when it comes to cosmetic sales. I guess when it comes to sales, you just have to be prepared to wait and waste precious time in poorly-managed crowd control or payment counters.

Kanebo warehouse sales seemed to be usually held every 6 months, and in different venues. This time round, its held at the Kao Office at UE Square. Their prices seemed to be almost similar in each sale. Because it was a weekday, the crowd was manageable. I spent 45minutes choosing my products but spent an hour queuing for payment. Its quite ridiculous, considering that its not their first time holding the sale. There is only ONE cashier counter! Sigh.

Since their skincare has ingredients that are not "friendly", I bought mainly make-up products. Pls do check the manufacturing dates before purchase. It seemed that most of their products are manufuctured in either 2009 or 2010. I managed to score the Lunasol Three Dimensional Eyes that is manufactured in 2012 and the rest of my products being manufactured in 2010. I gave up on those that were manufactured in 2009. We were told that their products have a shelf life of 5 years. It certainly sounds dubious to me. That long?

Fret not, I have included this link in my main page under the LINKS tab, so any time that you are unsure of the shelf life of your product purchased from the warehouse sale, check it against checkcosmetic.net based on the batch code printed on the products. Note that not all the brands are included and that its just a general guideline provided by the website. Its entirely up to you, if you want to believe or doubt its "words".

Lunasol is not included in their list.

Kanebo Freshel White C UV Day Protector A $5
( Manufactured in March 2010 with batch code 0620 which meant that is valid for at least another year, based on the general shelf life of 36 months generated by checkcosmetic.net )

    Lunasol Point Make-Off $10
Lunasol Three Dimensional Eyes 01 Neutral Beige $35
Lunasol Aurorized Eyes 01 Nuance Variation $35
    Lunasol Modelling Liquid Foundation $25
    Lunasol Shining Ocean Eyes $15

Tempted to get the skincare products but decided not to, since it does contain mineral oil, PEG and whatsnot.

Review : Skin79 Pearl Luminous Beblesh Balm (Diamond Collection)

    Product Description
Skin 79 Diamond Collection Luminous Pearl Beblesh Balm is a brush-up Beblesh Balm that performs a gorgeous look with pearly glow.
With the patented Nano Silk Particle and the specially-designed brush, it allows better adherence for a fine and glowing makeup finish. Various nutrients are contained for healthy and dewy skin.

    Benefits:
    • Moisturizes
    • Brightens
    • Great Adhesion
    • Long-Lasting

I bought the miniature 5g size from Taiwan last year, at about S$4 but the application is like a normal BB cream in tube form and not with their designated brush.
Initially, I did not quite like it because it has little sparkles in it, which was not what I expected it to be. It seemed to be too shimmering on my fair skin. I am not a fan of shimmering products that made your skin look shiny, greasy or emphasize on all the flaws.
Later, I realized that the loose powder made a big difference to the overall look, when paired with this BB cream.

The first pair-up with Palgantong Theatrical Powder was a disaster and made me hate the BB cream so much. My face looked very fair and with very obvious sparkles that seemed to be screaming for attention.

After I paired it with Lucy Minerals loose powder in Bisque, it was love at first sight. I love the overall effect. Soft and radiant. Pretty, dewy and glowy with the little shimmers.
The texture is soft and moist, blends in well with my skin tone but do not provide much coverage as its sheer. It may seemed too shimmery for everyday use and for office but when its paired with the right loose powder, viola, you don't even have to worry about the sparkles effect.

The oil control is moderate, not fantastic but I can close one eye on that just because I love love love this BB cream.

According to its main site, the product can also be used as a highlight to express the face contours. It also has patented skin ingredient, Nano Vita Silk which contains Silk Amino Acid and Vitamin to nourish the skin.

    Ingredients :

Made in Latvia, MADARA are entirely natural and ecological cosmetics certified according to the international ECOCERT standard. It is a volunteer standard that certifies cosmetic products confirming their natural origin. ECOCERT prohibits the use of synthetic perfumes, synthetic preservatives like parabens, mineral oil, propylene glycol and other synthetic ingredients.

Enriched With Baltic Botanicals - Linden Flower, Chamomile, Birch, Plantain, Hop and Cranberry, this product is ideal for normal hair type. The Gloss and Vibrancy Shampoo contains a shine enhancing formula that gently cleanses and strengthens hair while keeping the scalp calm and prevents dry ends.

After a bad colouring job in early October, I have been using this set of hair shampoo and conditioner to cleanse and provide the much-needed nutrients to my hair filled with kinks. In the past, I usually purchase shampoos meant for damaged hair but decided to choose one for normal hair, this time round. Reason being, I have attended a beauty talk where the speaker shared with us that shampoo is for the scalp and conditioner is for the hair ends so choose what is appropriate. Even though my scalp is oily at times, but getting a shampoo meant for oily hair sounds abit too much for my hair to take it, hence I chose one for normal hair.

The initial phase of cleansing my hair have been a nightmare due to the bad colouring job, as my fingers could not even move much within my hair, since its full of tangles and kinks. The persistent usage of the shampoo brought slight relief to it.

Citrus in colour, the shampoo has a runny texture but does not lather much hence I tend to use more. I cannot comment much on the voluminous effect, if any since I do have thick hair. However, it does provide some shine to my hair, giving it a slightly glossy look, but then again, it could also be due to my hair being black, instead of coloured, so the appearance of the hair looks much healthier.

After about 70% of usage, I noticed more hair strands dropped easily, with just my fingers running through my hair. Scary indeed.

I used the conditioner religiously after the bad colouring job as I desperately needed to get rid of all the kinks from my hair. While it did slightly soften the hair and remove some of the kinks but it hardly do much to provide silkiness to the hair.

White in colour and creamy in texture, it coats the hair well, but did not provide the much needed nourishment and repair to my hair. I am not too impressed with the conditioner.

    Review : Paula's Choice Essential Non-Greasy Sunscreen SPF15 with

    Product Description
Essential Non-Greasy Sunscreen SPF 15 has a supremely light texture that includes avobenzone for sufficient UVA protection. The antioxidant-rich formula also contains water-binding agents for just a touch of moisture so skin is better able to resist the drying effects of sun exposure. We formulated this to feel more elegant than most sunscreens for normal to oily skin, so go ahead, apply liberally—this won't feel slick, greasy, or occlusive.
This product is 100% fragrance- and colorant-free.

Essential Non-Greasy Sunscreen SPF 15 is recommended for normal to oily/combination skin but can be used by anyone looking for sun protection with a soft matte finish and light hydration.

    Benefits :
    •Provides broad-spectrum sun protection
•Oil-free formula lightly hydrates with a silky finish
    •Delivers antioxidants for wrinkle repair
•Formulated for use on your face and body
    •Works great under makeup
•100% fragrance-free and contains no dyes or coloring agents

I received a sachet of this product during my first purchase of the Paula's Choice items. There were limited samples to choose from, so I chose this sunscreen to try it out.
Non-greasy : check! Antioxidants : check! SPF15 is too little though.

Being my first step into the brand by the renowned skincare guru, Paula Begoun, I was filled with expectations.
White in colour and slightly creamy in texture, the product has a distinct sunscreen scent. It is drying on the skin with a slightly greasy base. My face looked greasy after application and my loose powder managed to mattify the overall look. I have skipped the sunscreen on dehydrated areas on my
    skin as it peels badly.
On good skin areas, it applies well but still gives a slightly greasy sheen to the face.

It scored 3.4 from 155 users on Makeupalley. You can read that not many people like the product.

In terms of ingredients, the sunscreen ingredients do cover both UVA and UVB, hence its described as a broad-spectrum sun protection.

    Octinoxate 7.5%
Octinoxate is the most widely used UVB blocking agent in the skin care industry. However, according to this source and smartskincare, when Octinoxate is exposed to sunlight, "it is converted into a less UV absorbent form (from E-octyl-p-methoxycinnamate into a Z-octyl-p-methoxycinnamate) hence it is not very stable. This conversion can be partly prevented by certain other UV blockers, particularly bemotrizinol (Tinosorb M).
Note that according to this source, Octinoxate combined with Avobenzone degrades even faster.

According to the EWG, Octinoxate is a moderate hazard, primarily because it can lead to developmental and reproductive toxicity through enhanced skin absorption. It can produce estrogen-like effects and should not be used by pregnant women and children. However, some studies seem to imply that 1 to 2% of the applied material may be absorbed through the skin. Most of the octyl methoxycinnamate appears to be trapped in the stratus corneum in adults.
    Maximum recommended by FDA: 7.5%

    Octisalate 5%
According to TIA, Octisalate is an organic compound used as an ingredient in sunscreens and cosmetics to absorb the full range of UVB rays from the sun. Although the Cosmetics Ingredient Review notes that reproductive and developmental toxicity can occur in relation to Salicylic Acid, one of the two primary components of Octisalate, it has determined that the levels used in cosmetic and beauty products would not cause any adverse reaction. Importantly, the FDA has approved Octisalate for use in sunscreen with up to 5% concentration.

    Avobenzone 2%
According to this source, tests have revealed Avobenzone’s tendency to significantly degrade in light over time, lessening its sun protection capabilities. For this reason, most sunscreens containing the ingredient also include photo-stabilizing ingredients like octocrylene.
Avobenzone appears to be relatively non-toxic and non-irritating to the skin. However, because it is often used in conjunction with photo-stabilizers, there is a greater risk for skin irritation and low-level toxicity. Furthermore, some studies have demonstrated it to be absorbed by the body and secreted into urine, and is therefore not recommended to use on children or pregnant women

    Oxybenzone 2%
According to TIA, Oxybenzone primarily functions as a photostabilizer and sunscreen. It also helps preserve the integrity of other cosmetic ingredients, preventing their deterioration under the sun. For this reason, Oxybenzone is most often used in conjunction with other sunscreen agents.
According to the Environmental Working Group, it has been shown that the product penetrate the skin and cause photo-sensitivity. As a photocarcinogen, it has demonstrated an increase in the production of harmful free radicals and an ability to attack DNA cells.
The FDA has approved the use of Oxybenzone as a safe and effective OTC sunscreen ingredient, but only in concentrations up to 6%

    Active Ingredients:
Octinoxate 7.5%, Octisalate 5%, Avobenzone 2%, and Oxybenzone 2% (sunscreen agents).

Review : Bioderma Hydrabio Serum Moisturising Concentrate

    Product Description
Moisturizing concentrate for sensitive and very dehydrated skin. Generates intense hydration and leaves skin fresh and radiance.

    Key Ingredients :
  • Aquagenium
    • It's a patented complex that will stimulate the regeneration of skin cells and their ability to retain water in surface for better protection against external aggressions.
  • D.A.F Complex
    • It increases the tolerance of skin and the fact to react slower to aggressive factors.
I received a sachet of this product, during my last purchase of Bioderma. I am so glad to have a chance to try out Bioderma products because I am starting to fall in love with them. This is yet another winning product. I have previously tried its Light Soothing Cream which I like, and its Micelle Solution is a staple in my kit which is highly raved by makeup artists. Perhaps not so, for waterproof eye make-up.

This serum with a gel-like consistency has a fresh and light-to-medium texture. It feels and looks thick yet it gets absorbed into the skin within minutes.
It is said to increase hydration by 53% after 15 minutes. Hypoallergenic and Non comédogenic, it is suitable for sensitive skin.
However, it does contains parabens, fragrance and dimethicone in the list of ingredients, so if you are allergic to these ingredients, its best to steer clear.

Due to the inclusion of dimethicone, this serum do provide a silicon effect on the skin, giving it a silky smooth feel. At the same time, it also hydrates my skin pretty well, minimizing most of the flakiness on my nose. The end result, is smooth, supple, soft and hydrated skin. What more can you ask for?  Take note that its purely for hydration, and not for whitening and firming purposes.

    Ingredients :
WATER (AQUA). GLYCERIN, XYLITOL, SODIUM POLYACRYLATE, MANNITOL, RHAMNOSE, FRUCTOOLIGOSACCHARIDES, LAMINARIA, OCHROLEUCA EXTRACT, NICINAMIDE, PYRUS MALUS (APPLE) FRUIT EXTRACT, DIMETHICONE, CYCLOPENTASILOXANE, TRIDECETH-6, PEG/PPG-18//18 DIMETHICONE, SODUIM HYALURONATE, HEXYLDECANOL, CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE, DISODUIM EDTA, CHLORPHENESIN, PHENOXYETHANOL, FRAGRANCE (PARFUM)

Review : Holika Holika Miracle Real Skin Finish SPF25 PA++

    Product Description
Holika Holika's Miracle Real Skin Finish cream is a dynamic, light-weight skin tone correction cream that also provides bright radiance, moisture and SPF protection (SPF 25) to your skin. Think of it as a super light BB cream that works to enhance the look of your natural, bare face.

•Features niacinamide, a key ingredient for skin whitening effects.
•Floral extracts help protect and moisturize skin.
•Choose from 2 types: Normal/Dry Skin (pink jar), Combination/Oily Skin (purple jar).

The description on the retail bottle described it as a multi-cream with sunscreen and whitening functions to treat the skin tone and makes bare skin looks bright. It sounds like a BB cream, no?
I thought it was a BB cream and I used it like a BB cream, for the both sachets I owned (Normal/Dry skin).

White in colour, the Real Skin Finish has a pearly sheen that supposingly helps to add radiance to the skin. It is cream-based but gives a soft and moist feel and does not provide any coverage. There is a distinct perfum fragrance which I rather do without. On dehydrated or dry areas, the product does not accentuate the flakiness which is a bonus point. It provides light hydration to the skin. Combined with SPF25 with PA++, the product certainly sounds like winner for those with good skin. However, it does not and cannot replace sunscreen so please layer another sunscreen underneath.

This product did not correct my uneven skin tone or conceal any redness. It does not control oil that well too. My T-zone oiled up by mid-day, though not drastically. Even though it is supposed to boost up the radiance on the skin, I hardly find so, on my fair skin.

Till then, take care and have a lovely week!

Review : Kose Sekkisei Supreme Moisturiser II

    Product Description
A concentrated moisturizer that helps to maintain the skin elasticity and regulates moisture balance of the skin. Helps to suppress the formation of dark spots to reveal a healthy glow from within.
Harnessing extremely fine ingredients such as Melothria extract, Chinese Indigo extract and Chinese Soapberry extract to prevent oxidation of your skin while increasing its metabolism rate.

A Kose promoter was giving out the samples in Centerpoint and gave a sachet to me, several months ago. Since I have been battling dehydration on some areas on my skin, I decided to use this as a day moisturiser which I have been doing so, for the past one week.

Kose Sekkisei Supreme is a whitening series designed for
    1) Dark complexion caused by sun exposure or stressful lifestyle
    2) Dehydrated and dry skin
    3) Rough and fragile skin
    4) Dull skin tone caused by lack of sleep and exercise.
This series is rich in Japanese and Chinese herbs which are able to improve dehydrated and rough skin texture, as well as work into your overall well-being by calming your mind with its soothing scent.

White in colour and slightly creamy in texture, the product dries up fast on my hands so I have to quickly spread it on the face once its squeezed out from the sachet. The texure was abit too heavy for my skin, as the moisturiser II is a rich moisturiser as compared to moisturiser I.
It gives an oily sheen to the face with a sticky feel and you have to wait for a couple of minutes before it gets absorbed.

Since its quite a rich moisturiser recommended for dry and normal to dry skin, the initial slathering on the face gave rise to some tiny red bumps on the skin
Thereafter, I use a facial mist prior to the moisturiser application which fits my needs better.
While I like the comfort it gives to my dehydrated surface, its definitely too rich for my skin type, under our humid weather.

According to Beautykat, the usage is stated as follows :
    - Use a cotton pad to saturate the moisturizer.
    - Smooth the cotton pad gently starting from lower part of your face toward the ear. Can be used on eye areas.
    - Apply the moisturizer again without cotton pad.
    - After application, cover your face with hands and press the skin gently. The light and relaxing scent helps you to relax and improve blood circulation.

However, I use it like a normal moisturiser, without the cotton pads. It seemed like an odd step to me.

The product contains the following moisturising and nourishing ingredients

    Moisturizing ingredients:
    Melothria Extract HC
    Adlay Extract
    Angelica Extract
    Glycerin
    Ai-Luros Extract
    Adlay Water
    White Tea Extract

    Nourishing Extract:
    Adlay Oil

Review : Martha Tilaar Body Contour Body Wash

I came across the shop in Marina Square several months ago, and stepped in when there was a promotion on selected products. I bought mine at $11.80 after a 30% discount.

The brand, Martha Tilaar hails from Indonesia, with 40 years of history behind it. One of their key product range, Dewi Sri Spa has a secret ingredient in it - Rice (Oryza Sative) which boasts of Vitamin E, Vitamin B and Ceramide.

Under the range, there is a Classic and Signature series where the Classic series contain a number of body products in 3 variations such as Body Contour (tighten skin, reduce cellulite lines & stimulate new cell growth), Reviving (refresh and whiten) and Sensual (stimulate the passion with a exotic aroma).

I picked up a body wash from the Body Contour range since its touted to improve blood circulation, the lymphatic system and promotes skin regeneration with lemon and patchouli oil to regenerate skin and reduce cellulite. I also quite like the scent among those that I have tried.

Even though the lady in the shop told me that their products are organic, it is hardly so, judging from the ingredients. It contains chemical additives like SLS, parabens, etc. You can check out the rest of the products here and the different collection under Dewi Sri Spa here.

This Body Contour Body Wash comes in a 250ml bottle with a flick-top cap opening. Orange in colour, the gel-like consistency is a pleasure on the skin, providing lots of lathering due to the inclusion of Sodium Laureth Sulfate. Thankfully, I have not experience any drying effects with using it.

It has a lovely and relaxing scent which comprises of a mixture of lavender and lemon oils. That said, I won't purchase this body wash again, since its not exactly natural or organic. It also contains the Dirty Dozen.
