Review : My Beauty Diary 2-Step Europe Clarifying Pack

Product Description
My Beauty Diary 2-Step Europe Clarifying Pack is mainly formulated with romantic roses from Europe, added with a unique blend of flowers plant extracts such as black roses, rose nectar, mallow and European white daisies. Pampered and embraced by the blissful floral scent, it makes your skin translucently white. With organic bamboo water from the mountains of Asia, it is rich in nutritional and moisturizing ingredients to deliver deep hydrating and defensive efficacy.

【Black Rose Brightening Mask】
Packed with precious black roses extracts which exude a classic elegance aroma, its lightweight texture carries effective whiten, soothe and moisturize efficacy to mildly purify skin and improve dullness. Mallow extracts from the Alps deeply condition skin, tighten pores, enhance skin defensive power and rejuvenate skin.

【Rose Honey Refining Gel】
Rose nectar originated from steep cliffs in France, efficiently repair and relieve pressure caused by the surrounding harmful substance on skin. It aids to reconstruct skin’s self-protective layer, enhances whitening efficacy and promotes skin regeneration. While the European white daisies essence effectively doubled its long-lasting and intensive brightening effect.

I owned a piece of this facial sheet mask which was a souvenir gift from a good friend who came back from Taiwan some time back. My Beauty Diary masks usually work pretty well on my skin but I don't quite fancy the recent 2-steps facial sheet mask because I usually don't have a habit to over-nourish my skin after a masking session.

Both the mask and the refining gel has a heavy rose fragrance which I rather do without. Its overpowering but the fragrance from the mask dissipates after layered on the face.
The material is thin but did not tear. The cut-outs are just right for my face shape. The essence on the facial sheet mask is just enough without the dripping messiness, yet wet enough to be a spa treatment for the face.

While it did hydrate my skin moderately well but the brightening effect is hardly visible. The gel is an added step to seal in all the goodness. It is light and refreshing but the fragrance is still too much for me to take it.

Lancome Genifique Yeux Youth Activating Eye Concentrate

Product Description
An advanced anti-aging complex that helps create younger, brighter eyes. This unique gel-cream leaves the eye contour velvety to the touch. Dark circles and signs of fatigue fade as the eye area is infused with life and takes on a fresh, luminous appearance. Discover the skin you were born to have with the ultimate age-defying solution.

The 5ml little pot of mine was one of the products from last Christmas Coffret Set. I have been using it for almost 5 months. Light but creamy, I prefer to use it sparingly to avoid any oil seeds near the eyes. There is a velvety-smooth feel right after application, largely due to the presence of Dimethicone.

My last eye product with Bifida Ferment Lysate as its key ingredient wasn't too impressive though I did get good results from its face product.
Sad to say, I didn't notice any improvement to my undereye area from this product after 5 months of daily morning usage. It doesn't lighten my dark eye circles or depuff my eye bags.

Ingredients
Water, Bifida Ferment Lysate, Glycerin, Alcohol Denat., Dimethicone, Hydroxyethylpiperazine Ethane Sulfonic Acid, Sodium Hyaluronate, Phenoxyethanol, Adenosine, Peg-20 Methyl Glucose Sesquistearate, Peg-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Salicyloyl Phytosphingosine, Ammonium Polyacryloyldimethyl Taurate, Limonene, Xanthan Gum, Caprylyl Glycol, Disodium Edta, Octyldodecanol, Citric Acid, Citronellol, Fragrance, Sodium Benzoate. , Glycerin, Alcohol Denat., Dimethicone, Hydroxyethylpiperazine Ethane Sulfonic Acid, Sodium Hyaluronate, Phenoxyethanol, Adenosine, Peg-20 Methyl Glucose Sesquistearate, Peg-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Salicyloyl Phytosphingosine, Ammonium Polyacryloyldimethyl Taurate, Limonene, Xanthan Gum, Caprylyl Glycol, Disodium Edta, Octyldodecanol, Citric Acid, Citronellol, Fragrance, Sodium Benzoate

Review : Schwarzkopf Q10 Recharge Shampoo and Conditioner

Product Description
Q10 Recharge range brings energy to your hair from the very beginning via pure coenzyme Q10 combined with Liquid Keratin. Pure coenzyme Q10, the energy source of revitalizing scalp, promotes the regeneration of scalp keratin and stimulates full energy born with hair. It gives you up to 100% fuller and more supple hair and strengthens and replenishes the hair from the inside. Unique Liquid Keratin with high permeability, acting as if a highway were opened inside hair, transmits strong energy to every hair cell with max. speed and starts strong hair growth from inside out.

I brought along the 50ml sized shampoo and conditioner to my Greece trip recently. I had bought them in a Watsons store at Hainan Island, China late last year. I don't think I saw them in our local Watsons though.

Schwarzkopf has created this range of Q10 Recharge hair products specially for a rejuvenating effect
to make hair strong and elastic. You can read more about what Schwarzkopf says about the different type of hair needs here.

Recommended for thin and limp hair, it actually does not fit my needs as I have thick hair with greying strands. *sob* But the idea of strengthening my hair strands appeal to me so I have been using it on a daily basis during my 10 day trip.

Both the shampoo and conditioner smell the same, with a distinct almond scent mixed with some other scent as well. The shampoo foams well but the conditioner conditions the hair poorly which is insufficient under the Greece hot scorching weather. My hair ends were slightly dry and the hair products left some white flaking bits on the hair.

Note that both products are made in China.

Marie Veronique Organics Moisturizing Face Screen SPF 30

Product Description
Sun damage can cause serious medical problems, not to mention wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, discoloration, and age spots. This product protects against both UVA and UVB rays with non-nano zinc oxide, giving you a smooth, healthy skin that looks far younger than its age.

Key Ingredients :
Non-nano zinc oxide : Protects against the full UV spectrum, UVA as well as UVB. It works by reflecting UV rays rather than absorbing them. And it’s highly stable, unlike most chemical sunscreens, which can generate free radicals that cause skin damage.
Red raspberry seed oil : Helps to prevent sun damage. It was the subject of a study published in 2000 that showed that it could help prevent rash, eczema, and other skin lesions, and had superior anti-inflammatory properties. Raspberry seed oil also showed the potential to act as a broad-spectrum UV-shield due to its high anthocyanin content. Finally, research is suggesting that the antioxidants in raspberries are effective in slowing the effects of aging, both inside and out.
Green tea/white tea infusion : This duo imparts extra sun protection and anti-aging benefits, thanks to high levels of antioxidants, polyphenols and catechins.

Mine was a complimentary sample when I purchased its travel kit. The shade is not stated on the bottle I owned but I believe it should be light tint as it matches my fair skin. Similar to the products in the same range, it does not contain harmful chemicals, nano zinc oxide, parabens, fillers, fragrances, or waxes that can clog pores.

The texture for this product is slightly thicker than that of Sheer Coverage and it takes awhile for me to blend it into my skin well in order to avoid any ugly streaks. I like the added protection of SPF30 and with its 20% Zinc Oxide, as compared with Sheer Coverage. Its just the blending part which takes more effort.

Once its blended well, my skin looks smoother and more even with a matte finishing if paired with a good loose powder as I still find its coverage sheer on my less than perfect skin. Even though the application seemed easy but it also dries easily, similar to its Sheer Coverage so I like to work thru the process quickly. I use it directly after its Anti-Aging Oil Plus and when paired with the right loose powder ( with more coverage ), my skin does look beautiful. Pores near my nose were smaller and there is a subtle glow.

Ingredients :
Active Ingredient: 20% non-nano zinc oxide
Camellia sinensis (green & white tea)*, simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) oil*, prunus armeniaca (apricot kernel) oil*, limnanthes alba (meadowfoam) seed oil, helianthus annuus (sunflower) oil*, emu oil, vegetable glycerin*, elaesis guineensis (red palm) oil*, polyaminopropyl biguanide**, tocopherol (vitamin e), rubus idaeus (red raspberry) seed oil*, lecithin*, potassium sorbate, allantoin, xanthan gum, mica, hippophae rhamnoides (sea buckthorn) oil*, calodendrum capense (yangu) oil, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) oleoresin*, pearl powder, daucus carota (carrot) seed essential oil, cistus incanus (cistus) essential oil, helichrysum italicum (helichrysum) essential oil, iron oxides

Marie Veronique Organics Everyday Sheer Coverage Light Tint SPF 20

Product Description
Provides essential every day UVA/UVB protection and defends against premature aging with a unique combination of natural humectants, emollients and anti-oxidants. It evens out the skin tone and absorbs into the skin leaving a lovely matte finish.
It also helps to provide anti aging support with beta glucans, glucosamine, and powerful anti-oxidants such as coffee fruit extract and prevents moisture loss from exposure to the elements with red raspberry seed oil and broccoli seed oils.
Made with non-micronized zinc oxide, this product is a physical sun block that reflects UV rays without releasing wrinkle and cancer-causing free radicals

Key Ingredients :
Non-nano zinc oxide: Non-nano zinc oxide protects against the full UV spectrum, UVA as well as UVB. It works by reflecting UV rays rather than absorbing them. And it’s highly stable, unlike most chemical sunscreens, which can generate free radicals that cause skin damage.
Red raspberry seed oil: With its natural sun protective properties, red raspberry seed oil helps to prevent sun damage.
Green tea/white tea infusion: This duo imparts extra sun protection and anti-aging benefits, thanks to high levels of antioxidants, polyphenols and catechins.

Housed in the same opaque brown glass bottle, I have been using the 30ml travel size product on a daily morning basis for work. I paired it with a translucent loose powder for a natural finish. The coverage is very sheer so loose powder with a better coverage is something I preferred, to have it paired with this product.

With 16.6% of Zinc Oxide for suncare protection, it is considered quite high compared to most physical sunscreens though some may still find it lower, especially if its compared to its Marie Veronique Moisturising Face which has more than 20% Zinc Oxide.

It looks and feels like a liquid foundation but with a runny texture that is pretty light. SPF20 is pretty low under our humid climate so I tend to do 2 to 3 layers of the product on my skin for better sun protection although I still feel more protected if I layer another sunscreen prior to it.

It has a nice herbal scent but does not blend in well on dry skin, so its best to use the Anti-Aging Oil Plus as a base, before application. The coverage is very sheer but surprisingly, still manage to even out my skin tone with a nice natural semi-matt finish. My skin just looks somehow better.

What is great about the product is that it provides a good broad spectrum UV protection, is photo-stable and contains much anti-oxidant benefits. It does not contain harmful chemicals, nanoparticles, parabens, fillers, waxes, or fragrances as well.

Ingredients :
Active ingredient: 16.6% non-nano zinc oxide
Camellia sinensis (green and white tea), non-nano zinc oxide, vegetable glycerin, Brassica oleracea italica (broccoli seed oil), Prunus avium (cherry kernel seed oil), emu oil, Punica granatum (pomegranate seed oil), Rubus idaeus (red raspberry seed oil), Tocopherol (vitamin E), Calodendrum capense (yangu oil), Cosmocil CQ*, xanthan gum, n-acetyl glucosamine, lecithin, potassium sorbate, pearl powder, Rosemarinus officinalis (rosemary oleoresin), beta glucan, Coffea arabica (coffee fruit extract), Hydrolyzed silk (silk powder), Rosa centifolia (rose) essential oil, Citrus aurantium bigaradia (neroli) essential oil, Helichrysum italicum (helichrysum essential oil), Cistus incanus (cistus) essential oil, iron oxides *Paraben-free anti-microbial agent

Review : Marie Veronique Organics Anti Aging Oil Plus

Product Description
If your once smooth skin is being replaced by wrinkles, fine lines, rough patches, and enlarged pores then this product may help you. It penetrates the top layers of the skin, lubricating and protecting so it can retain moisture and repel environmental assaults. Plus, it dissolves congestion that clogs pores. Leaving you with soft, smooth skin with less visible wrinkles…not to mention fewer blemishes.

Key Ingredients :
Krill oil : In addition to its excellent Omega-3, 6 and 9 balance, this oil is an excellent source of astaxanthin, an extraordinary antioxidant, and phosphatidyl serine, which Korean scientists have dubbed the “anti-aging fat molecule.” Krill oil is, in fact, one of the very few oils known to contain phosphatidyl serine in significant quantities.
Argan oil : Rich in Omega-6 and 9, Vitamin E, carotenes, squalene, and phenols, argan oil possesses a remarkable ability to nourish, moisturize and improve skin elasticity.
Blackberry seed oil : While difficult to extract, this oil is high in natural Vitamin C as well as several types of Vitamin E and lutein making it an excellent ingredient for repairing damaged skin. It is a superb choice for people looking for a natural Vitamin C source to prevent aging.

The 7.5ml size I owned from the travel kit has provided me with a glimpse of how the product has worked for my skin. This anti-aging oil contains a natural blend of hard-working plant oils and saturated fats that deliver powerful anti-aging benefits to your skin.

The oil is light gold in colour with a serum-like oily texture. It looks heavy but thankfully its not as greasy as it looks. It works best on moist skin, hence I prefer to use it after the anti-aging mist. Two to three drops of the oil is enough for my face. I feel that the oil tend to disappear pretty quickly on the skin so I try to work quickly to massage the oil on the face just before it disappears into nothing.
It left a slight layer of stickiness which took awhile to get absorbed but thereafter, my skin was soft and smooth. Skin looks glowing and nourished but surprisingly not as hydrated as I would like it to be. I get slight flakiness on my cheeks, near my nostrils and sides of my nose. I also get a prominent oil seed on one side of my cheeks. ( note : I use the Anti-Aging Oil Plus at night and Face Oil in the morning )

The herbal scent smells good though I did take some time to get used to it. I have slight breakouts on my forehead after 2 weeks of continuous usage though.

There is no harmful chemicals, no waxes that can clog pores, no water that can evaporate and dry out your skin, and no nut oils that can go rancid with UV exposure. I only wish it can hydrate my skin better. Note that less is more as my combination skin may look greasy if I applied too much.
It is an excellent base for the MVO Face Screen.

Ingredients :
Simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) oil*, vitus viniferi (grapeseed) oil*, prunus armeniaca (apricot) kernel oil*, limnanthes alba (meadowfoam) seed oil, argania spinosa (argan) oil*, rubus fruticosus (blackberry) seed oil*, borago officinalis (borage) oil*, emu oil, oenotherus biennis (evening primrose) oil*, sclerocarya birrea (marula) oil*, rosa rubignosa (rosehip) seed oil*, tocopherol (vitamin e), rubus idaeus (black raspberry) seed oil, vaccinium macrocarpon (cranberry) seed oil*, actinidia deliciosa (kiwi) seed oil*, hippophae rhamnoides (sea buckthorn) oil*, calophyllum inophyllum (tamanu) oil*, lecithin*, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) oleoresin*, lycopene, euphasia superba (krill) oil, daucus carota (carrot) seed essential oil, lavendula angustfolia (lavender) essential oil*, rosa centifolia (rose) essential oil, rosa damascena (rose) essential oil, pelargonium graveolens (rose geranium) essential oil, helichrysum italicum (helichrysum) essential oil, citrus aurantium bigaradia (neroli) essential oil, cananga odorata (ylang ylang) essential oil*

Review : Marie Veronique Organics Anti-Aging Mist

Product Description
As you age you lose moisture, dehydrating your skin and making wrinkles more visible. The anti-aging mist adds a spray of nutrient-rich, anti-aging moisture to hydrate, firm and tighten the topmost layers of the skin giving you firm, bright and incredibly moist skin that hides your wrinkles

Key Ingredients :
DMAE : This antioxidant membrane stabilizer helps to increase elasticity and firmness by stimulating muscle movement via the neurotransmitter acetyl- choline.
Black elderberry extract :  Replete with anthocyanins, known to have powerful UV protective properties, elderberry extract has important antioxidant and anti-aging properties.
Licorice extract : The glycyrrhizin and flavonoids found in licorice extract produce anti-inflammatory action in the skin. In addition, liquiritin helps treat the skin- pigmentation disorder melisma

I owned the 30ml size of the anti-aging mist from the Everyday Essentials Travel Kit. It has since change its name to MVO Mist. I was initially turned off by the herbal scent but has since grew to love it. Somehow, it provides a calming effect to my senses.

Similar to its cleanser, it is packaged in a brown opaque glass bottle to protect its contents.
The mist is refreshing and hydrates my skin well, paving the way to using its anti-aging oil in the next step of my skincare. Having good ingredients in the product is a major plus point. It does not contain toxic fragrances or alcohol and astringents that dry out the skin.

Ingredients :
Camellia sinensis (green and white tea)*, citrus aurantium bigaradia (neroli) hydrosol, sambucus nigra (black elderberry) extract*, glycyrrhiza uralensis (licorice) extract*, uva ursi (bearberry) extract*, polyaminopropyl biguanide**, saccharomyces/xylitum black tea ferment (kombucha) extract*, dimethylaminethanol (DMAE), pelargonium graveolens (rose geranium) essential oil, rosa centifolia (rose) essential oil, helichrysum italicum (helichrysum) essential oil, lavendula angustifolia (lavender) essential oil*, curcuma longa (turmeric) essential oil

Review : Marie Veronique Organics Cleanser

Product Description
Everyday clean skin that gets softer and smoother with every wash. It gets rid of dirt, grime, sunscreen, and makeup. Uses very mild sudsing agents to remove accumulated grime, excess dead skin cells, makeup, and sunscreen—without stripping or irritating the skin.

I am pleased to finally able to lay my hands on Marie Veronique Organics Travel Kit through a spree.
Marie Veronique Organics is a brand that is based in California with products that do not contain toxic ingredients, harmful chemicals, artificial agents and preservative.

The first product I use was this cleanser, as I have been looking out for a gentle cleanser during that period. It does not contain toxic preservatives, harsh sudsing agents, alcohol, detergents, or synthetic fragrances. There are no waxes which can clog pores, no water which can evaporate and dry out your skin, and no nut oils which can go rancid with UV exposure. Cleanser is 100% vegan, and the
ingredients include green and white tea, aloe vera, jojoba oil, geranium essential oil, polyglucose, palmarosa essential oil and vetiver.

It certainly live up to its name for being a gentle cleanser. I prefer to use it in the mornings, just to cleanse away all the oil and grime accumulated through the night, as compared with using it in the
evening where there are make-up and more bacteria accumulated during the day out of the house.

The travel kit size of 30ml comes in an opaque brown apothecary-esque glass bottle that dispenses the lightweight gel-like contents with some shaking required. Being opaque and brown, the glass bottle actually helps to preserve the freshness of the contents.

The gel is very light and thin with a fluffy and almost liquid texture that almost disappears into nothing as you lather onto the face because it does not foam. I was almost afraid that it does nothing to cleanse away the grime hence I tend to pick up more to cleanse my face.

The colour is of light brown, with a herbal scent that required some getting used-to. It is said to be able to cleanse skin and remove make-up, dirt and oil in a gentle way.

It is not recommended to be used to remove make-up as I have tried it once and some remnants of my highlighter is still apparent on my cheeks.

The full retail size costs US$32 for a 120ml which I have already ordered.

Ingredients :
Camellia sinensis (green and white tea), Aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) juice, vegetable glycerin, Simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) oil, xanthan gum, Decyl polyglucoside  polyglucose), Leuconostoc/Radish root ferment (Leucidal*), Gluconolactone (and) sodium benzoate (MicroGuard*), sucrose cocoate, Pelargonium graveolens (geranium) essential oil, Cymbopogon martini (palmarosa) essential oil, Andropogon zizanioides (vetiver) essential oil, pelargoium graveloens (geranium) essential oil

Updated :25th Jan 15

Funnily, the 2nd bottle which I ordered last year made my skin tingly. There is a minty sensation near my lips and chin area and although there is no redness or itchiness, the sensation is certainly not welcome. After almost 5/6 of the contents being used up, the tingly and minty sensation disappears.

Back From Greece ( Athens, Mykonos and Santorini )

One of the countries that you must visit for its breathtaking scenery. The picture above was taken opposite Santorini Palace Hotel which is where I am staying for 2 nights. The hotel wasn't that fantastic though. The bed sheets have this damp feeling, probably because of the humidity in the area.

My trip wouldn't be complete without a beauty haul. Apivita and Korres hail from Greece so I definitely have to pick up some products from both brands.

Review : Dr. Morita Brightening and Whitening Essence Mask

My mum picked up a box of this facial sheet masks when she was at Taiwan for a vacation. The sheet mask is very wet and dripped even when I had it on my face. I dislike the messiness it caused, so the best way is to lie down and even then, it still drip down to the neck.

The material is thin with the nose cut-out slightly smaller than what it fits me. It has a fragrance but still bearable. My skin looks brighter after a 20 minute treatment but it did not last beyond the following morning.

Review : Avene Gentle Milk Cleanser

Product Description
Creamy, no-rinse milk cleanser formulated to gently remove make-up and cleanse skin. Specially formulated for dry and very dry sensitive skin.

Benefits :

  • Gently removes impurities without irritation while respecting the integrity of the hydro-lipidic film
  • Provides moisture and antioxidant protection
  • Moisturizing ingredients leave skin soft, supple and smooth
  • Pleasant fragrance tolerated by sensitive skin
  • No rinse, soap-free
  • Avène Thermal Spring Water to soothe and soften skin
  • Hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic

  • Key Ingredients :

  • Avène Thermal Spring water (59%) - Soothes and softens
  • Hyaluronic acid (Sodium hyaluronate) - Moisturizes
  • Vitamin E - Moisturizes and provides antioxidant protection
  • Gentle surfactant - Cleanses and removes make-up

  • I bought 2 bottles of this cleansing milk to be used as a daily cleanser. I have a soft spot for milky based cleansers because it is gentle and nourishing to my sensitive dehydrated skin.

It comes in a pump dispensing bottle, which pumps out the cleansing milk in little bursts. However, it is very difficult to reach the end of the bottle with its tiny tube. The texture is a slightly runny creamy texture. I prefer something more creamy than this as I felt that the runny texture is too mild and gentle. I use this purely as a cleanser and not as a make-up remover so I cannot comment on its effectiveness.

I like that it does not leave my skin flaking or taut but instead made it clean and soft..
However, having mineral oil as the second ingredient in the cleanser made me think twice about repurchasing the next one.

It scored 3.8 from 43 users on Makeupalley.

Review : Naruko Tea Tree Oil Out T-Zone Blackhead Remover

    Product Description
Tea Tree Oil Out T-Zone Blackhead Remover is designed with Papaya Extract, Kaolin and Clay Membrane to enter into the pores, dissolve and extract blackheads. It also helps to clear away the dead skin cells and tightens pores.
Containing gentle Mint, Tea Tree and Green Grapefruit Extract, it helps to eliminate unwanted oil and dirt on skin and to maintain fresh, clean skin. Piroctone Olamine, an anti-bacterial agent prevents acne formation.
Formulated with highly moisturizing ingredients such as Snow Fungus Extract, Aloe, Witch Hazel, Allantoin and Phytoferulin Complex, Tea Tree Oil Out T-Zone Blackhead Remover soothes the skin after cleansing.

I purchased this product in Taipei sometime back, just to top up to a certain amount, to enjoy the discount. I thought it would also be good for my combination skin and blackheads on my nose.

This gentle, ecofriendly product is said to be made without parabens, preservatives, artificial ingredients or coloring. The small tube is handy and convenient. Creamy in texture and white in colour, this Blackhead Remover works like a clay mask which I use on the T-zone.

I use it when my skin is oily, when there is an upcoming zit or just to clear the blackheads on my nose. It contains Mint Essential Oil which causes a cool sensation during use.
The recommended usage is to use on damp skin but it does not seem to work too well because a creamy paste just does not adhere to damp skin. And you are supposed to massage it off the skin which also does not seem to work too well for me because the creamy paste just did not dry up within the 3 to 5 minutes time frame.
I usually use it for up to 20 minutes and yet its still not easy to massage/rub it off the skin. I followed up with using cotton pads to clear away the gunk instead.

Nose appears cleaner with blackheads much minimized at times as it does not seem to work every time. Upcoming zits reduced slightly in size, together with my pimple cream used after that. Pores near to my nose looked tighter and smaller but it was a temporary effect that only last till the following morning.
