Review : Acure Organics Aromatherapeutic Moroccan Argan Oil ( Citrus Ginger )

Acure Organics Aromatherapeutic Moroccan Argan Oil ( Citrus Ginger )
Product Description
A true skin super food! Incredibly rich in vitamin E, essential fatty acids, and proteins, argan oil helps fight the appearance of lines, imperfections , scars and stretchment all while restoring the appearance of texture, elasticity and tone. Use it as a: facial serum, body + decollete massage oil, hair serum, hand + cuticle oil, soothes dry elbows + heels. Lightweight and easily absorbed, the aromas of citrus and ginger will invigorate and warm the senses!

Acure Organics Aromatherapeutic Moroccan Argan Oil is available in its original scent, rose scent, coconut scent and citrus ginger scent. I have used several bottles of the original scent as a body oil before and recently chanced upon Iherb having a promotion on a trio set ( namely the rose, coconut and citrus ginger scents ) which tempted me to get one too.

Vegan, gluten-free, sulfate-free, paraben-free, phthalate-free, petroleum-free, PEG-free, synthetic fragrance-free, silicone-free and cruelty-free, 100% cold-pressed Acure Organics Aromatherapeutic Moroccan Argan Oil in Citrus Ginger scent is a multi-purpose oil which can be used as a restoring facial serum, body and decollete massage oil, hair serum, hand and cuticle repair and soothes dry elbows and heels. Great for travels when you don't want to carry too many products. And even though its made of glass, I have no problem bringing it to my recent Bali trip. I just stash it in my padded cosmetic pouch.

The 30ml clear glass bottle comes with a pump dispenser that dispenses the contents in squirtz that sometimes "fly" all over the place, leaving the floor or table greasy. It would be best to use it in the bathroom. A thoughtful gesture from Acure Organics, is that the pump dispenser can be locked, with just a twist.

I have used it as a body oil both day and night - sometimes, you can just spread the argan oil over your legs to make it look less dry in short skirts. At night, use it to moisture your body and feet, before you sleep in an air conditioned bedroom. My skin definitely felt more moisturised and less dry. Its smoother and softer too.

Other times, I have used it over my decollete, right after my bath or as a hair treatment oil just before I left the house. Unfortunately, I have yet to see a difference to my decollete and hair condition yet. The immediate appearance to my hair tresses is, less frizzy and less dry but there was no long term improvement.

I did not use it on the face ( and have no intention to ) because I still found the texture to be a little too greasy for my skin type.

A small amount goes a long way, when its applied on the body. However, on my long and thick tresses, I probably need more quantity than others.

In terms of ingredients :
  • Argan Oil is the base and as the first ingredient in the list, the quantity is much more as compared to the rest. Argan Oil is known for adding moisture to dry or dehydrated skin.
  • Lemon peel oil and orange peel oil are citrus ingredients that are loaded with furanocoumarins and coumarins - chemicals which may cause phototoxic reactions on skin when exposed to the sun, resulting in skin discolorations. ( based on the researched article here and here

Just to share that, based on the IFRA standards here, the common essential oils considered phototoxic include: bergamot, lime, bitter orange, lemon, rue, angelica root, petitgrain, rue and grapefruit. Some authorities also include lemongrass, cumin, fennel, anise, and verbena absolute on the list.

Personally, I would recommend the argan oil in its original scent, if you use it on the face, in the morning. The one featured here, Acure Organics Aromatherapeutic Moroccan Argan Oil ( Citrus Ginger ) is sensitive to sunlight, due to the inclusion of lemon peel oil, hence it would be best to use it at night but if you do use it in the day, do cover up the area of skin which you applied the oil, carry an umbrella or wear a hat. Always remember to apply sunscreen too.

This product scored 4.1 from 59 users on Makeupalley where most have cited an improvement to their skin, regardless of oily, acne-prone type, etc.

Where to buy :

Amazon

Iherb

I have also reviewed Argan Oil from other brands. Read my review on Kahina Giving 10% Organic Argan Oil . M.A.D Minerals 100% Pure Essential Argan Oil and Mark's Hill MiracOILicious Moroccan Argan Oil.

How about you? Have you use any argan oils recently?

Ingredients :
argania spinosa (argan oil), citrus limon (lemon) peel oil*, citrus sinensis (orange) peel oil*, zingiber officinale (ginger) root oil*. *organic ingredient

Update on the Rose scent :
Similar in texture and performance. Scent is sweeter and more cloying. A great multi-purpose oil where I used it on the face and body.
